Busy family mixed livestock farm in central Scotland. 60 beef cows,500 sheep, a few pigs, 1400 free range hens and small scale salad/ potato enterprise. Nestled beneath the Gargunnock Hills, 7 miles west of Stirling, Old Leckie is surrounded by lush grass and age old trees and has been run by our family for over 100 years. A small 300 acre family farm we're proud to care sustainably for our animals and our environment so that we can grow the very best in fresh, local produce. The farm also hosts a historic house, farm stay, large garden and 40 acres of managed woodlands.
Wwoofers can expect to be welcomed as part of a busy family with kids and chaotic household. WWoofers should be adaptable and willing to immerse themselves in a whole range of activities that are part of our normal daily life - including egg collection and packing, salad sowing and packing, livestock and machinery, woodland management, firewood processing, traditional building preservation, gardening. Visitors will mostly be with the host or another person on the farm, but on occasion may be on their own.
Accommodation and meals will be in the farm house, which is informal and relaxed. Wwoofers should expect to pitch in with household tasks and cooking. Skills and experience all advantageous - but not essential. A good sense of humour and no problem attitude is!
Certifications: We inherited a farm that was not organic and have been moving our production processes and methodology to a regenerative farming model. Much of our current practise would meet organic standards, though not yet able to start organic transition
