We are a biodynamic/organic smallholding on 5 acres, situated in the Highlands of Scotland between Nairn and Forres. We are 40min drive from Inverness, close to the well-known Findhorn Foundation and two miles from sandy beaches and the coast. The project is inspired by the founders of the Findhorn Foundation and permaculture principles. This means putting into practice Earthcare, Fairshare and Peoplecare as well as working with the principles of co-creation with Nature, listening on the inner & to the land, and working the land with respect & love. We run a Community Supported Agriculture crop share scheme (CSA). This supplies our members with a regular veg box (crop share) during the growing season. Our crop share members also come pick their own berries from the Community Orchard. We invite enthusiastic, hard-working, reliable helpers to help care for, and harvest the vegetables and fruit. This is the sixth season of our project and there is a small core team running the project, with the help of a cheerful bunch of local volunteers. Ute, Ieva and Marion share the growing tasks, with lots of practical knowledge. From April through September a sociable group of crop share members and volunteers come together on Wednesday mornings. Free-range chickens are a delightful and enthusiastic part of the gardening team, along with Kaya the cat and Lilly the dog. Winnie and Dahlia – two jolly Kunekune pigs – do their bit by eating any surplus and rooting around. The farmhouse cottage provides cosy accommodation and is shared by a friendly community of about 4 adults & guests. There is also caravan and cabin accommodation for the summer months. We have a weekly meeting and we all join in with cooking and domestic work. Our neighbours and friends are Gomde Scotland, a Tibetan Buddhist woodland retreat centre. The tasks here are mostly physical, as we mostly cultivate by hand. So, we very much welcome people with some gardening experience, who are self-motivated to work as well as able to fit into the work at hand. For someone interested in biodynamic methods there is the opportunity to be involved in making and applying the various preparations. There’s lots to learn here and we would be keen to host longer stays where you would get a more in-depth understanding. For longer stays, we would decide in the first month if a longer-term arrangement is a good fit. For those looking for an apprenticeship now or in the future: our project has been accepted by the Biodynamic Agricultural College to offer biodynamic work-based training placements. This is a two year course in biodynamic farming, accredited through Crossfields Institute. It is hands-on learning with all its varied tasks of crop cultivation, biodynamics as well as sales and planning. The program is well rounded with regular courses held for the group of trainees at other biodynamic farms, on specific learning topics. We've already received some enquiries and would like the first placement to start in March 2026. Please do share this opportunity with anyone you might know who may be interested! Please contact us for any details about the work-based training or info@bdacollege.org.uk or look at the BA College for inspiration! (https://bdacollege.org.uk/work-based-training/) Current projects: At the moment, the main focus is running the small market garden and CSA as well as growing the community orchard. Regular tasks include cultivation of soil and crops, working with compost, weeding and harvesting. There are always various building projects going on, as well as developing the land in general. In 2026 both Ute and Ieva are talking part in the Seed Sovereignty Programme's year-long training in Seed Politics, Practice and Production and will be growing crops for seed. Ieva is a keen fermenter, continuously experimenting with new recipes and you’d be more than welcome to join in. Internet access available

I had a lovely time at [Host]. The people were very friendly and kind, calm and respectful. I found it very rewarding to work in the field, to learn about growing veg and to see how a market garden can be run. During my stay in May we helped preparing beds, weeding, planting and even started to harvest for the veg box scheme. In the evenings I usually had time to go on little explorations, to the beach by bike (which i was kindly offered to borrow), or to relax and do my own things. Also I enjoyed the company of fellow wwoofers. Thank You team [Host] for having me! :)

Thank you Ute, and everyone at [Host] for making me feel so at home! [Host] is such a welcoming and lovely place with a wide range of projects, and crops in the go, as well as the pigs Dalia and Winnie and the chickens. I worked on weeding, planting, and helping lay the foundations for a new pollytunnel. I had the opitunity to see how all these processes interacted in biodynamics. Everyone was super friendly and knowledgeable. The work was varied and enjoyable, and the food was fantastic! (we all took turns to cook and ate evening meals together on week days) I enjoyed meeting new people on the weekly volunteer days, exploring the local area (the east coast is a hive of alternative community) and had the opportunity to join bhudist practices at Gomde nextdoor. All my love to lovely Lilly, Dalia and Winnie, the chickens and the [Host] community. Miss you all x I can only recommend :)

I had a great time with Ute near Nairn. My accommodation was very comfortable and warm. I worked from 9-4 harvesting vegetables, planting seedlings, cleaning out the chickens and pigs and cooking with the amazing organic veg. Everyone was very kind and helpful, I learned a lot about biodynamic gardening and perma culture and picked up some new recipes. Nairn is just a short bus ride away and there's a beautiful beach.

My experience at Ute’s farm was amazing. I did many different activities every day and learned a lot about gardening and handling a farm. Ute is very committed and her vegs are incredibly good. Everybody around the farm is super welcoming and you feel at home instantly. If you want to learn about biodynamics in a beautiful place with beautiful people, don’t hesitate to spend some time at Mandala garden, it’s worth it <3 Thank you for everything again.

Ute My stay at [Host] was very nice, a lot of people are working on it. The Garden is wonderful, since I stayed for 2 weeks in the of June 2025, we had loads of chards, strawberries and beginning of berries. The hours are very structured (from 9-4 with weekends off), and it's well organised where the only answer to everything is: ask Ute 😂 I learned so much, around 100 things per second surrender by wonderful knowledgeable women. Plenty of time to enjoy the surroundings, whether it's when someone is going somewhere and are willing to bring you along and show you a part of their life, or if you want to go on your own. I would recommend hitchhiking especially to go to Findhorn, (about 5-10min wait). The food cooked was also wonderful! I would say though, after 4pm except for dinner, I was on my own (which is good bc I needed sleep aha) but bringing someone with you if you can't handle that is a thing you need to think about. The work was very varied, with nice chatting & weeding, planting, harvesting, seeding, preparation of the beds, moving compost or manure. I really loved the jobs there, especially feeding the pigs 🥰 Thanks you for everything Ute, Ieva, Christina, Guna, Alia, Marion, see you again soon x
