Our Social Enterprise is set in the lovely Devon countryside, a small non-commercial organic growing space that combines regenerative growing (agroforestry / food forest / forest garden edible system (organic), a polytunnel (organic), a 2 acre woodland and garden with traditional annual veg crops (organic). We live in Devon in a rural community, well connected with a train station 2 miles away and motorway 8 miles away. Honiton is our nearest market town, it has a traditional high street with independent shops and cafes. Exeter is about 17 miles away, it is a city with an interesting history, some old parts and plenty of things to do. We are a wife and husband with two adult sons (who pop back here every now and then) and our dog, Nahla. From Spring through to Autumn, we sometimes have other guests staying here for creative courses that we run from the studio - it's a fairly lively space during the summer months! Organic methods: Permaculture, composting, mulching, companion planting, biological pest control, minimal dig, rain water collection, solar power Certifications: early in the process and not seeking to be commercial Current projects: We are in the sixth year of creating the Food Forest (agroforest) so there is an opportunity to help us shape this further with knowledge you might bring. We are also beginning a phase 2 agroforestry project (alley cropping). Our polytunnel is five years old and is a fabulous space to grow the more 'exotic' foods during the summer and extend the growing season in spring / autumn / winter. We run a social enterprise that is concerned with creative practices / nature connection and mental well being. We involve our wwoofers in these immersive educational experiences where possible. We have been WWOOFing in many different places, and this has been one of our most inspiring and enjoyable WWOOFing experiences so far with Sue and Martin. Here, you’ll become part of a very open-minded, creative, welcoming, and fun family who will introduce you to a different way of life. In under 7 years, they’ve created an incredible food forest alongside an alley cropping area, and their creative approach to collecting rainwater will, without a doubt, expand your mind about what’s possible. Perhaps the most inspiring part for us was the energy with which they do everything — not with stress or perfectionism, but with experimentation, humour, enjoyment, and a deep respect for nature. During our one-week stay (which was far too short!), the weather was very hot, and Sue and Martin were incredibly flexible in adapting the work around the heat. We worked in the food forest, helping with planting, watering, weeding, and taking part in the Phase 1-2-3 trench-dig method. We had so much fun and laughed a lot throughout our stay. Everyone we met here was incredibly kind and welcoming. We stayed in a beautiful, comfortable room with an en-suite bathroom, and we were invited to join many wonderful activities, including a memorable BBQ, a morning swim in the sea, a fun game of croquet , a tour of a local farm, and some truly delicious food, as they’re all very good cooks! We highly, highly recommend WWOOFing here if you have the opportunity, and we will certainly be back for ...

I had a lovely time with Sue, Martin, Alex and Narla the dog! They were really welcoming, I was treated like one of the family, and I got on with them all really well. We had lots of great chats about everything from window taxes to the definition of a Yorkshireman. The food was delicious and plentiful (also they went to a real effort to accommodate me being a vegetarian). The accommodation was luxurious, a big double bedroom with a desk and lots of storage space, also plenty of shared bathrooms around the house. For my off-time, they had lots of suggestions of things for me to do, including good running routes, hiking trails, and villages/towns/cities worth visiting. I did a hike along the coast which was really nice. The work itself was mainly removing plastic sheeting from their food forest (which had been put down a few years before to kill the weeds) and planting grass in its place, but I think this was an uncommon thing for WWOOFers to do so you would probably be doing something else! I also did some weeding in the polytunnel and planting seeds in the greenhouse. Sue gave me loads of great tips for improving my garden back home, as well as plant cuttings and seeds. I'd highly recommend a visit to [Host]!

These past weeks have been such an inspiring and truly educational experience. I feel so grateful to have had the chance to spend this time with Sue, Martin, and the rest of the family, who welcomed me with such kindness and generosity. From the very beginning, I felt included and supported, and that made the whole experience even more meaningful. What impressed me the most was their deep passion and genuine care for the environment. The way they live in harmony with nature and thoughtfully manage their surroundings really opened my eyes. I’ve learned so much about ecosystem management, not just in theory, but by actually seeing and experiencing how it all comes together in practice. I’m leaving with new knowledge, fresh perspectives, and a lot of inspiration that I know I’ll carry forward in my own journey. I can’t wait to come back and see how the food forest develops and to witness all the wonderful projects as they continue to grow and thrive!

Sue and her family were so welcoming and wonderful hosts. We learnt so much about permaculture, planting, repotting, how to look after plants, processing the fruits, and so much more! The work we did was very varied and at our own pace, from working in the food forest, watering, weeding, to picking fruit and processing. We were also shown how nature can be made into art & dyes and we experimented in some natural dye painting and printing from nature. Our week was a great inspiring experience, with such amazing hosts, thank you!

I spent two wonderful weeks at the [Host]. It was my first WWOOFing experience and I could not have had better hosts than Sue and Martin. From the very beginning, I felt at home. Sue always made sure that the tasks in the garden and foodforest were varied - for example seeding, planting, weeding and picking berries - and I never got bored. I really enjoyed working independently even though I did not have special agricultural previous knowlegde. I could experience that for Sue an Martin, WWOOFing is first of all a cultural exchange: enjoying delicious meals together with the whole family, getting to know so many new people as well as the efforts my hosts did to show me their region and culture made my stay unforgettable. It was a pleasure to be part of this lovely family and to have the possibility to deeply relax body and mind. Thank you so much, I hope to see you again!

I had a deeply enriching experience during my stay. I contributed to gardening in the food forest and had the chance to make and enjoy food from it using the edible and medicinal plants — from jams and cordials to teas, ice cream, salads, and more. I lost track of time potting on seedlings and tying up tomatoes. Sue and her family were so welcoming and inclusive, I genuinely felt part of it all. I was especially touched by the thoughtfulness of books chosen for me to read — thank you. I was inspired by their ongoing steps toward carbon neutrality, as well as their work in developing the agroforestry system. The land as well as their creative studio provided a peaceful and creative space to reflect and connect with nature. As a bonus I also spent time around them as artists and other creators, as well as in their workshops and Sunday swims in the sea. I laughed, I cried, and everything in between. It was a truly grounding stay, and I don’t yet have the words to fully describe it all and express the depth of my gratitude. I’m thankful for all the opportunities and the space that was held for me during my time.
