We are part of a small eco-hamlet in west Wales on a 5 acres of mixed pasture & woodland. We live in zero carbon buildings (strawbale self-built) and manage the land through a permaculture approach. Our family is Wyc and Silvi with children Willow (13), River (10), and Peggy, our beloved dog. We also have three pet sheep, Lavender, Honeysuckle and Flora, and some chickens. When not on site, Wyc works three days a week as a teacher of 3D animation and games design. Silvi was a yoga teacher and is now a full time mum, small-holder, natural skin product maker and director of our small scale oat milk business, where we grow, process and distribute oat milk locally. We both have a background in meditation, yoga and similar practice. We don't have much time to sit in a beautiful forest of bluebells, contemplating reality. But there is one here, just in case we do! Now that the house is built we are mainly focusing on gardening. We have 80 cob hazel trees, a small orchard of apples and elder, and we grow many kind of berries. Our land includes a young forest garden, polytunnel and outside raised veg beds and no-dig garden. We aim at being self sufficient in veggies through the year, although we buy some fruits and veg in, especially in winter. The activities on the farm will be typically gardening, watering, weeding, creating new beds, cutting grass, harvesting veg, but we also find ourselves constantly involved in various building projects. We are currently building a small cabin in the woods and we hope to find time to build a sauna this summer. We have hosted volunteers a lot over the years. Depending on everyone's needs, days can be agreed and arranged but typically we engage in smallholding tasks for 5 hours a day 5 days. All meals are provided. We have a cozy insulated log cabin (5x3m) for volunteers with wood burner. We all use a compost toilet. Showers and kitchen facilities are in the house. You can help yourself to breakfast in the morning and we'll make lunch and dinner. Both myself and Wyc are creatively inclined. Our hobbies are yoga, meditation, shoe making and other creative crafts, Silvi plays guitar badly and Wyc loves 3D animation. We love wildlife and biodiversity and the natural world. We are keen conservationists. We love the beach and we often have days out with the kids paddle boarding during summer, or walking on the Preselis or exploring the woods. We are all interested in fungi. Silvi sings in a choir and Wyc practices Aikido. The children's hobbies range from Art to music (watch out, our son is a drummer), drama, D&D, mycology to biodiversity to woodland wondering.

This was a fantastic first WWOOFing experience. Silvi and Wyc are kind and welcoming hosts who immediately made me feel at home, like I was part of the family. Their property is beautiful and the cabin I stayed in was very comfortable. I’m super grateful as well for the delicious home cooked meals and great conversation with the whole family! I was mostly working in the garden, doing some planting, strimming, pinching and tying tomato plants, and a lot of weeding! I also got involved with some other tasks, such as laying foundations and cleaning the polytunnel. As someone with no gardening experience, I felt like that this was a good intro to some of the tasks involved in maintaining a garden and growing your own food. I spent quite a lot of time working independently, but Silvi always gave clear and helpful instructions on what tasks needed doing - you definitely won’t be bored! Thank you!! x
