Organic Vegetable Farm
Fife
Hello,
Established since 1983, our farm sits on a 25 acre holding that consists of 10 acres of vegetable production with 11 polytunnels, a propagation glasshouse and large orchard across two different locations. We aim to produce as much produce as we can in a mindful approach to soil and ecosystem health. Being accredited by the Soil Association means we are proudly governed by strict management practices. These include rotations, selective tillage, cover cropping and no-till principles. We use an array of techniques depending on the context of the land being managed.
Our produce is distributed between our box deliveries, farm shop and cafe. Our cafe produces Vegetarian and Vegan food on site using large amounts of our "ugly" fruit and veg. This food is consumed by a lively community that regularly visit the estate the farm is situated on.
The estate that the farm sits on has lots of lovely walks through the forest and hills that can be climbed to see 360 degree views of the Kingdom of Fife. There are areas to swim within a small drive, that include some of the nicest beaches and picturesque wee villages along the coast. We are a sociable team, mostly, and often gather during the summer months for BBQ's and bonfires.
Our current accommodation is two small caravans that would suit an individual or two friends cosily and a cabin that would be perfect for a couple or two friends. There is also a cosy staff room close by that has WIFI and cooking facilities available.
Breakfast and lunch are provided but the evening meal will be self catering. There is usually always veggies to be cooked up.
We ask for a minimum of one week stay as it takes a while to get used to the routine of things.
I have put in the link to a video produced to commemorate 40 years of farming ecologically, hopefully this will give you an insight into our farm.

My five-week stay at [Host] was my first Wwoofing experience and this place is just beautiful. It is designed by warm and funny people who welcomed me right away so I felt home immediately. I liked that there were always other volunteers who you could get to know and spend evenings with. I made friends and don't want to miss the time and laughter there at all. The work is pleasant and varied. So don't hesitate and visit this beautiful place, you won't regret it. Thanks to the whole [Host] team! And a big hug to Silvan the cat!

We had a lovely time at Pillars and would highly recommend it as a woofing place, everyone is so nice and you learn a lot about life on a bigger scale vegetable farm. You have different types of tasks every day, like planting, turning beds, apple picking, weeding, pricking, potato picking, preparing vegetable boxes...we will keep fond memories of our time in Falkland! Thank you so much and hopefully see you soon!

Thank you so much ! I leave the Pillars with new horizons, inspiring life stories and hope ! I feel so grateful that I had the chance to meet you all ! I stayed 12 days and I could've stayed several more days. I loved working in the fields and the polytunnels, planting, weeding, cleaning beds, harvesting, getting to meet all the persons involved here, to enter a loving and funny community ! I learnt Scottish phrases, news english words ;), went to a real pub (thank you Charlotte!) The Pillars surely is a safe place thanks to the sweet people working and living there (✨Fi✨), in the beautiful Fife. Thanks again (I mean Cheeeeers).

I had an incredible time at Pillars of Hercules. If you’re even thinking about applying here, I implore you to do so! Everyone was fantastically kind, the area is beautiful, my accommodations were cozy, the food is exceptional, I learned a great deal, and I left with memories that will last a lifetime. Out of all of my WWOOFing experiences, Pillars is my favorite place to have visited. Thank you to Frank, Fi, Davey, Charlotte, Jarka, Lynn, Lorianne (and Logan!), Ben, and the whole Pillars team!!

In October until mid-November I spent my time at Pillars and enjoyed it very much!
The mornings are dedicated to harvesting (I now have an official „kale-harvesting“ certificate). The fresh vegetables are going into the farm shop or the cafe on-site.
Afternoons I spent mostly on preparing beds (a whole market garden!), planting seedlings, spreading woodchip… but also doing many other tasks like building shelfs, sorting out the tool shed or trying to design a prototype for willow fencing, those tasks I liked a lot!
The first few weeks I spent there as an „only-Wwoofer“. The days are very lively, the evenings can be a bit more quiet. But soon a couple, originally from Argentina, joined me. Thanks Paula and Nacho for your fun and lovely company!
From the beginning on I felt very welcome and included from this amazing team of Pillars! I enjoyed their young spirit and humorous nature and I am grateful for the invitations to events and dinners. The farm is about innovation and community and it makes me wanna be posted about what is happening next at this great place!
With this in mind I want to say thank you for letting me be part of Pillars of Hercules!
Ps. Staying there probably makes you eat the biggest amount of peanut butter you ever did before! But it’s just too good to not to. Especially dates with peanut butter!
