I am a recently retired Landscape Gardener and my partner works on a large private garden as well as for Growing Well a large Organic Gardening/ Farming Charity. We have been restoring a large Rock Garden for many years and now at the stage where we can plant up with more variety and interesting plants. So people with experience and a good knowledge of plants would be useful. We have a vegetable plot with greenhouse, a selection of fruit trees and a nice piece of mixed deciduous woodland. There are ongoing maintenance of outbuildings. So any carpentry skills would help. Being familiar with garden machinery would help. We use mowers, strimmers, hedge cutters, chain saws. Lots of weeding in summer. We don't keep any animals though I have kept bees in the past and may possibly take that up again. It is a family home and we are not commercial. We have opened the garden for various charities over the years though not recently.

We had such a lovely time WWOOFing with Stuart and Katja! From the moment we arrived, they were incredibly kind and welcoming. They shared a lot of their knowledge about the area, gardening and life, and gave us loads of great recommendations for local walks and places to visit. The work was varied and enjoyable. Apple picking, hedge cutting, raking acorns, chopping and sorting wood, and weeding the veg beds. The property is absolutely beautiful, a huge garden & woodland, an old house full of character, and surrounded by stunning scenery and peaceful nature. We had our own cozy little area with a kitchen, living room, bathroom, woodstove, and bedroom. The perfect place to relax after a day’s work. There was always great music, and we enjoyed plenty of good chats, and delicious food, especially Katja's apple cakes. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!

I had a magical week here with Stuart and Katja. The work involved cutting an overgrown hedge, moving the branches, helping with some repair work around the garden, weeding, harvesting some vegetables--nothing too strenuous. Wwoofers have their own area of the house with rooms and a bathroom. Do be prepared for Lake District weather with waterproof clothing and layers. The hosts here are very experienced with many stories to tell. I experienced nothing but kindness, and every afternoon I was able to go for a walk more stunning than the last. I look forward to returning one day.

Our week with Stuart and Katia went really well!! We loved working in their beautiful garden with a stunning view of the mountains and the sheep. The meals were delicious and always accompanied by great music. It's an ideal place for anyone who loves mountain hiking.

Round Hill was a wonderful experience, there was never a boring day and all there was always something new to try. Stuart and Katia are such lovely and kind people, plus fantastic chefs. They are incredibly knowledgeable, we had great conversations about gardening, technology, the world, bush crafts, music, books, travelling, culture and all of the in between. The days were quite relaxed but well filled with tasks. I did some apple, pea, and runner bean picking, we cut up a large branches for fire wood, moved the fire wood around, weeded the rock garden and cleared out some of the vegetable beds, and cut down parts of a hedge. There was always something to do and it was never a boring moment. When I wasn't rolling in dirt, they pointed out some great walks and are super central to so many fantastic views. The accommodations were very nicely maintained, private, and cozy. A fantastic place to visit and learn with wonderful company. I hope to go back

Stuart and Katja are warm hosts and Roundhill was a wonderful place for my first WWOOF. The shared meals were delicious because so much of what we ate came from the garden. It was great fun working in this beautiful large garden and completing the various tasks. I really enjoyed my time in Roundhill and the fantastic scenery.

We had a wonderful time staying at Roundhill with Stuart and Katja, helping out in the woodlands and learning how to rebuild a stone wall. We enjoyed delicious meals with freshly harvested vegetables from the garden together, which inspired us a lot to have our own veg garden in the future. Furthermore, Stuart is very knowledgeable about history which contributed to very interesting conversations. Thank you for giving us a break from cycling!
