******We welcome with all our heart refugees from Ukraine**** Mixed organic farm of 150 acres, vegetables, beef, sheep, and horses located in the beautiful Slad valley. Includes 40 acres of sustainably managed woodland which we are coppicing, creating new habitats and sustainably felling for firewood. We need help with all aspects of animal husbandry, with building projects; and with hedge laying and planting. The farm has small pond and wetland projects. We also need help with lambing and calving, and with routine work with beef cows and sheep, such as bedding, foot trimming, feeding and fieldwork. The farm has a small area of vegetable and fruit growing - some dedicated ground plus rotated crops with the grassland. Please contact us for details of current projects on the farm. Getting to volunteer with Sarah, Paul, and everyone else on the farm was an incredible experience. They are perfect for a complete beginner like me because they explain everything well, they show how to do things, they are gentle with their feedback when I make mistakes, and they are very encouraging as well as expressive with gratitude. Sarah is an excellent cook. The accommodations are quite comfortable. Conversations at meals are lively and philosophical. I would love to return here again! One of the highlights for me was getting to meet their horses. I have always been afraid of horses but the way Sarah introduced me to the horses helped me understand how horses behave and release that fear. It was a transformative experience.

Sarah and Paul were wonderful hosts! The work around the farm was varied and interesting. I loved working with the animals, so I especially enjoyed feeding a baby lamb in the mornings, moving the sheep from pasture to pasture, feeding the horses, helping with the chickens and repainting their chicken coop, and getting the sheep de-worming medicines and vaccines. I also helped with weeding, planting, watering, bagging wood, and other tasks. We usually started work around 9, took a tea break at 11, did lunch around 1:30/2, and finished up work in the afternoon and did dinner later around 7. Sarah, Paul, their daughter Becky, and their neighbors were all very friendly and welcoming. I really enjoyed getting to experience farm life with them— thank you so much for everything!

My 2+ weeks at Stroud Slad Farm were truly wonderful. Sarah, Paul and Becky were very kind and welcoming and the tasks I was given were very diverse, which always kept things interesting. The tasks included bottle feeding some of the very cute lambs three times a day, helping with weeding in the veg garden and poly tunnels, helping with bedding the cows, or mucking out the stables after the cows left for the fields, pressure washing in and around the stables (a quite refreshing task during the few surprisingly hot days for that time of the year), and much more. I also enjoyed my walks in the beautiful woodlands with Tally, the very sweet and energetic labrador belonging to their very nice neighbour Lindsey. On my days off I got to see some beautiful places in the area and Sarah even kindly took the time to give me a lift, when public transport proved a challenge. Thank you all very much for the lively conversations, great food, kind hospitality and just the wonderful time I was able to spend with you!

Stroud Slad Farm set a high standard for my first WWOOFing experience, and now that I'm at my second farm, I've realized just how high that bar is. Paul, Sarah, and Becky made me feel like I was at a home away from home. Some of the tasks I got to experience were so engaging that I didn’t even feel like I was working, like helping with tagging calves and bedding the cattle. Aside from feeding the animals morning and afternoon, Sarah kept the days diverse by giving me a variety of tasks to do. Oh and I cannot forget to mention the food—it was amazing! Sarah and Becky are incredible cooks, and every meal was a delight. By the end of my stay, I didn’t want to leave at all. I would 1000% recommend this farm to other enthusiastic WWOOFers. Thank you so much for such an amazing stay!

We loved our stay at Stroud Slad Farm. Sarah and Paul communicated clearly, were very attentive to our well-being. We did a variety of task all in relation to the farm (beef cattle, horses, sheeps, vegetable garden). We took two meals a day with the family, and really enjoyed both what was in our plate and the company. So a big thank you, one of the best wwoofing experience so far. Oh one more thing: Paul's way of being with the animals is very inspiring. It's all about being very calm, very anchored… and it works ;-)

I had a lovely time staying at Stroud, Slad farm which was my first Wwoofing experience. I went there with a goal in mind to get outdoors and learn more, and staying with Paul, Sara and Becky helped me to exactly do that. Each day I had lovely home-made food made by Sara, and I was given a wide range of jobs that were both rewarding and gave me a real insight into life on a farm. I was a complete beginner to farm life, but I was soon able to pick things up quickly thanks to Sara, Paul and fellow Wwoofer Nate. Some jobs were more physically challenging than others, so a decent level of fitness is a must, and you must be comfortable with outdoor life, ie getting muddy and/or wet. I felt a real sense of achievement at the end of each working day, it helped me to gain confidence and realise my potential. Thank you so much again, Sara, Paul and Becky!
