Family smallholding making Touchwood Cider
Cornwall
We are a family run smallholding, working on organic principles for the last 30 years. We have 14 acres, with another 50 acres on the Lizard peninsula. We have orchards, a large vegetable and soft fruit garden and keep poultry, geese, horses and bees.
We are 5 minutes from the coast and close to many good surfing beaches.
Help required with all sorts of projects, woodland management, and green timber build, as well as the usual seasonal work.
Our busiest time is harvesting apples and crushing for juice/making cider, from September through to December.
We are happy for any unskilled labour, any skills a bonus.
Food is all home produced and eaten together.
Accommodation is in a caravan, and there is use of a bathroom 20m from the caravan in the main house.
Organic methods: Our Farm operates on Organic principles for the last 30 years.
Certifications: were certified organic by soil association back in 1986 and have never had need to pay to be certified organic since!

I became a WOOFer and visited Nigel and Biz's farm for the first time.
Life on the farm was more wonderful than I have expected.
I haven't had such peaceful moments. How happy I was!
My work mainly was picking apples and making cider.
This was the activity I most looked forward to.
I also did some weeding and flower picking in the garden.
Sitting down to a warm, home-cooked supper with the family was a cherished time.
What a pleasure to have a sauna at home!
The beauty of St Agnes's beach, where Biz took me the day before my final day, is unforgettable.
It was a shame I could only stay for a week but I had a wonderful experience.
Staying there will absolutely remain a treasured memory for the rest of my life.
I really appreciate Nigel, Biz and the family.

[Host] farm is a marvellous place to wwoof at. The owners are very nice and keen to share any information about their smallholding (as well about cider making than the management of the farm and its self sufficiency). The surroundings are great to hike trough and the county has a very interesting history. The caravan I stayed at was small but practical and cute. And, best of all, their cooking is fabulous :) .

I had a wonderful time on Biz and Nigel's farm! I found their family to be incredibly warm and inviting, and getting to spend some time with them was the core highlight of my trip.
Most days include poultry feedings, apple harvesting/processing, and the occasional vegetable garden harvest. Oddjobs around the house. Some occasional cooking prep work.
The meals were unforgettable. Biz's skills should not be understated. The beach trips were breathtaking, as well. While we're at it, their cats may be the friendliest cats I've ever met.
A ton of love has been poured into this farm, and it shows.
Thank you all for the truly incredible experience.

I can highly recommend staying at this farm!!! The month I spent with Biz, Nigel, their grown up children and their animals was amazing. I was warmly welcomed into the family and immediately felt at home. The work was varied and fun. I fed the chickens, ducks and geese in the morning, which was a great way to start the day. Between breakfast and lunch (and sometimes afterward) I mostly helped in the garden. I did some weeding, clearing and planting as well as harvesting and processing beans, peas, tomatoes, black currants and blackberries. Sometimes I helped in the house too. It was always enjoyable to work alongside Biz and the other wwoofers and sometimes on my own. When the weather was good we went to the beach in the afternoon. Biz made sure to show us different places, so we would have a great experience and could explore Cornwall.
Biz is an excellent cook, so we had delicious meals in the evening. She's also making her own sourdough bread and as a German I was happy to have such good bread.
I really enjoyed cuddling with the cats and horses in my free time, playing games (mostly The settlers of Catan) in the evening and having bonfires in the garden. I learned a lot and made great experiences and memories, so I was thankful to have a cozy caravan to relax and sleep.
Thank you so much for such an unforgettable time! I'll definitely come back one day.

I had an excellent stay at Biz and Nigel's farm. They are very welcoming and considerate, and you feel like a member of their family. Meals are taken together and the food is very good, with their delicious cider as a drink. You're surrounded by animals, which is very pleasant. Their farm is very large and pleasant. It's a real experience and I highly recommend this farm.
