Family home and garden - rural, smallholding, market garden, flower grower, orchard, woodland
East Lothian
Hi guys,
We've been part of WWOOF for over a decade now and have had some great experiences getting to know new people and learn new skills.
Most of our work is in our walled garden but also a lot is done in our 3 polytunnels and our greenhouse.
We are a small team. Its a real family operation. We normally ask for a minimum stay of 2 weeks, after which we have a chat and see if were a good fit for each other. We have private rooms, but there are some with 2 beds or double beds if you're travelling with friends or partners.
Organic methods: We make all our own compost and do not waste any scraps. We do not use pesticides or weed killers in our gardens.
Certifications: we are not certified organic, we are a small operation.
Current projects: Current projects involve sowing for this year, soil improvement and preparation. and work in the polytunnels and greenhouse.

I stayed at [Host] during July this year. It was a very special and memorable experience. The walled garden is very impressive, and enjoyable to work in. We were able to harvest many different fruits and veggies. Lyn is an incredible cook and taught us all about jam making! Mackie and his family are all super kind and great company. During the summer it was really nice to work with and socialise with the other wwoofers. I would definitely recommend volunteering here!

My partner and I had a wonderful 3 weeks at [Host]. The work is very relaxed, leaving plenty of time for socialising with other WWOOFers or going on walks, reading in the library etc. Our room was amazing, with the most comfortable four poster bed! Lyn’s cooking was fantastic, and we enjoyed all the good chats with Ludo. Thank you Mackie, Lyn and Ludo!

I had the best summer at Colstoun, I spent around a month living in their beautiful house and working in the walled garden, weeding and planting, along with helping tidy the glasshouse, polytunnel and wedding spaces. I worked with the most amazing team of
wwoofers and a four legged helper, Bundy. The family is incredibly welcoming and I had the opportunity to meet so many interesting and kind people, I feel so lucky to have visited <3.

Amazing stay in the best Scottish family, for my first experience of Wwoofing and not speaking very good English, the family integrated me in the best way, I will never forget my stay here. It was magical. I can’t thank them enough.
I recommend 1000%

What a great experience for my first wwoofing :) All the people I met here are one of the reasons I love this place. The wwoofers♥, family, dogs, and people who came and went from the house are lovely. It's a BIG house in a vast property with some little town around so you'll have fun exploring the area and the house.
For the garden work, there is a LOT of Weeding, Hoeing, and some planting 😂 Cameron and Lyn are very informative and have great management. I have a chance to ground wiring for an automatic lawn mower area and help with some polytunnel and glasshouse makeovers. Also, preparing the place and snacks for the wedding. It's quite enjoyable!
Cameron and Lyn gonna prepare a great dinner for everyone dining together on Monday-Thursday. Ludo, Lyn, Cam, and Mac always have some great story to tell and talk with you :D For Breakfast, Lunch, and the weekend, I'm having so much fun in the kitchen XD Cooking some meals. Making the ice cream 😋 with ice cream maker. I have a chance to fix the bike and use it for exploring around the area and town(doable to Haddington and Gifford, but not the good idea 🤣 biking to East Linton where the farm's mart located, cause the STRONG wind and hilly landscape of Scotland. If you are familiar with the bike then just give it a try 😁)
Love you all Cameron, Lyn, Neil, Ludo&Roger :) Mac&Joe&Ru&Bundy
Thanks for this lovely experience. Hope to visit Colstoun and you guys again someday ♥

What an experience. I stayed in a 4 poster room in an enormous historic house that made me feel like I was in a film set, complete with residential artists and an art exhibition.
The volunteers worked in a walled garden with Cameron, Lyn or Mackie in a nice atmosphere and the family were always grateful for your hard work.
Cameron and Lyn cooked wonderful food which we normally ate in the grand dining room overlooking beautiful grounds. Family members, artists, volunteers and sometimes family visitors sat at the table together and everyone was treated the same. It didn't matter if you were an artist whose art was in famous collections or if you were a volunteer there to pull out a few weeds. Ludo would make sure new people went back for "seconds" if they wished and helped everyone relax with his sense of humour.
The knowledge and/or experience the family have obtained on a whole number of subjects and current affairs is quite remarkable and added another dimension to the exchange. I was still finding out more on my final night when Mackie took a couple of volunteers to an art gallery in Edinburgh; a must see city.
A wonderful place to find, thanks to WWoof that such stays are possible.
