WWOOFers as guests are welcome to come and share 'the good life' with the hosts and experience the tasks associated with this lifestyle and sustainable living. More recently we are trying to make changes in the way we live to take into account the current climate change /cost of living crisis and hope you can join us in this.
I prefer WWOOFers to be flexible and adapt to my lifestyle rather than have a timetabled regime. Some days are long- some days are short - depends what is going on. People call in for coffee and we all enjoy their company. Friends invite us for coffee. We attend community events. On a sunny day it is lovely to walk to the river. We may visit local towns or explore the local countryside. I prefer last minute WWOOFers I often have to travel away.
Our place is a lovely property located in beautiful countryside 10 miles from Perth. The small holding has been managed in a sustainable way for 50 years with an attempt to be as organic and self sufficient as possible and create a variety of habitats.
The 4 acre field is leased for sheep or cows. Part of it has an orchard growing heritage apple, plum and pear trees. The .75 acre garden has an organic veg patch, flower gardens, a large lawn, wildlife pond and a wooded area managed for firewood. Our hens and ducks produce fresh eggs.
I enjoy cooking for WWOOFers. Ingredients include eggs from the hens and ducks, veg and salad in season from the garden and meat including local game. I can't really cater for strict vegetarians as I cook for omnivores and use meat stock for lunchtime soups. I would hope that visiting WWOOFers would be prepared to be adaptable to what is available at the time. No fussy eaters or smokers please.
Jobs may include
Feeding hens and ducks.
Hedgerow management.
Weeding and general estate management.
Cultivating , planting, weeding and harvesting vegetables and fruit.
Cooking, preserving and freezing produce.
Painting preservative on the henhouse and sheds.
Helping with tasks in the orchard
I am also happy to host last minute WWOOFers if you have just joined.
We welcome single male and female WWOOFers, 2 friends and couples. Mature WWOOFers are particularly welcome.
WWOOFers often have to share a room or share the large caravan in the garden. Individual rooms are not always available.
Experience of strimming, woodworking, fencing and DIY would be helpful but enthusiasm, energy and a good sense of humour are more important!
Some work clothes and wellies are available. Try and travel hand luggage and borrow from here!
We are a very sociable cottage – and a lot of people visit me.
The cottage is in a rural location. The nearest bus to Perth is in Stanley (3miles away) .
WWOOFers are encouraged to be resourceful in the evenings and not watch television or be glued to their phones. Learn how to knit, sew, use a sewing machine, weave willow etc.
I am well travelled and would love to share travel adventures.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Travel from the Airport is perhaps best by bus number 747 from just outside the airport entrance to Halbeath interchange. (This is half-way to Perth) From there catch a bus to Perth which is often on it’s way to Inverness. Ask about the next bus to Perth as services are provided by Flixbus, Citylink, Megabus or Ember bus companies. I will meet you at Perth but you will need to let me know whether the bus arrives at Broxden Park and Ride bus stop or St Leonard’s Steet bus station in Perth. Check with Google for other options as services change regularly and it is also possible to travel by train.
We prefer WWOOFers to adapt to our lifestyle rather than have a specific schedule. Breakfast is at 8.15. Start the day at 9 pm and coffee at 11am. Some days are long some days are short depending how the day evolves. Jobs depend on the time of year.
As we prefer last minute WWOOFers we often don’t know whether there will be other WWOOFers for your dates here at the time of your enquiry. Contact us again just prior to your arrival if you need to know whether whether other WWOOFers will be here.
In the summer accommodation is likely to be in a large caravan in the garden with accommodation in the living area and in a separate bedroom. In the winter WWOOFers may stay in a twin room in the Cottage. It will be necessary to share accommodation if other WWOOFers are here at the same time as you.
Bed and board is provided. I enjoy cooking for WWOOFers using ingredients available at the time. Meals often contain eggs from our hens and ducks, salad and vegetables in season from the garden, meat and local game. Although we cook some vegetarian meals we are omnivores and we do cook meals using meat and use use meat stock for soup which we have most lunch times. If you are strict vegetarian this place would not be for you.
Other costs for your visit will be for bus or train travel and meals out on your days off when you are exploring the area.
You do not need to bring food but you may wish to bring your favourite treats.
