Our Farm is certified both by Demeter and the Soil Association. We use both biodynamic methods and homeopathy. We are in Higher Tier Stewardship under the government supported Countryside Stewardship Scheme. It's a mixed farm with livestock and vegetable production. A breeding herd of traditional Hereford cattle, a commercial flock of Lleyn sheep, and a small fibre flock of Shetland sheep. This year we've also started a small market garden which we use to run a weekly vegetable box scheme. The farm also boasts a beautiful 20 acre wood, and a public footpath which goes around the whole farm, and also connects to two local villages. This is a family enterprise involving three generations and we work in a collegiate manner. The activities involved include working with the stock and gardening. The hours and days worked as agreed following conversation. We are especially happy to take people interested in learning about biodynamics and are happy to take those for whom English is not their first language. You can in general expect to become part of the family during your stay with us. Please look at the website www.rush.farm to gain a fuller picture of what goes on at the farm! Accommodation is provided by a 42ft residential caravan with two bedrooms - one with a double bed and the other with two singles - a bathroom with a shower and lavatory, a kitchen dining area and a sitting room. All bedding and other linen is provided. The mobile home is connected to mains water and electricity with propane gas for cooking, television and broadband connections. Heating is provided by oil filled electric radiators. Facilities for washing and drying clothes are available in the farmhouse. You will want to bring boots or wellingtons, clothing for wet and cold weather - this is England after all! Our usual practice is for all to have the midday meal together but for volunteers to look after themselves when it comes to breakfast and the evening meal. All food and necessities of life are provided. Our rhythm of life is normally very relaxed but there are some fixed points in the week except perhaps at lambing. Every Thursday, the whole team meets at 8am for a weekly meeting. Farm activities for the rest of the week begin at 8am. There is one full-time member of staff whose main area of responsibility lies with the stock, and a member of the family who splits time between the farm and the vegetable garden.

I stayed at [Host] Farm in early January with the goal of learning about livestock. Brendan and Alice made my time so enjoyable, informative and comfortable and I couldn’t recommend them enough. The farm is beautiful and hard-working and their values around local and organic produce is very inspiring. We worked with the sheep and cattle along with some other jobs around vet visits and polytunnel preparation. I found my time invaluable and couldn’t be more grateful - thankyou you so much for having me!

I spent two weeks wwoofing at [Host] Farm. Working together with Alice and Brendan was such a nice experience & I was able to engage in a lot of work with the animals (both the Hereford cows as well as the Lleyn and Shetland sheep they have). I also helped out in the garden (weeding, harvesting & seeding) which i enjoyed a lot & helped a tiny bit in their cosy Farm Café. Both Alice and Brendan always shared a lot of their knowledge about farming, foraging or nature in general with me & I could learn a lot from them! Thanks again to you & keep up youre good work as farmers as well as hosts for all the future wwoofers! :)

I had a wonderful time at the farm, working with all the Cattle and various Sheep breeds was amazing (shoutout to Bandita, always interested in the [lack of] chewability of my knuckles)! I learned so many new things and met so many wonderful people. The hosts were very engaging to talk and listen to, teaching me about biodynamics and the farms' history. The camper provided was very nice and comfortable, food orders are usually twice weekly, and there are maaany black berry bushes all around to snack on. I very much enjoyed doing long walks around the farm first thing in the morning to check on all the animals, and there is ALWAYS something to do, but there is an occasional day where we end early. The hosts are very generous in advising of nearby interesting places. Although the nearest village doesn't have a whole lot, some train rides can take you to very interesting places.

Dear [HOST] Farm family Apart from getting to know the life on the Farm I got to know how difficult it can be to get out of bed when it’s very cold outside and how much I admire and impressed I am that Alice and Brandon could do it every day and for a very long time without any day off. That's one of the things I really liked about being on the farm, to get things done, even if its hard at first. But with a tea break even the most stubborn sheep or the craziest calf can be forgiven and forgotten. I really enjoyed the mix between work, problem at work and sarcasm to feel better about it. I ended up with an increased knowledge about silly cows and wise words from Alice: „If you think they could do it, they will“, lovely lambs ( thinking of Bandit right now), how eco fertiliser works, how to put up electronic fences and how it feels touching them, so many facts about plants and vegetables and how to create a bee high way. Besides the incredible landscape's to walk in this enumeration is only a glimpse of what Rush Farm has to offer! What will stay in my heart even more is the time I spent with Alice, Brandon and the whole Rush Farm family. They're so nice people and I'm very thankful for being able to spent such a lovely time with this friendly and funny family . Working with them showed me that it does matter a lot who you're working with. Even though I liked the task I was given, I enjoyed them even more with Alice and Brandon and our nice and funny conversation's. Perla M.

My almost 1 month stay at Rush Farm was truly a great experience! I had an excellent welcome from the family and Tim the farmer! I had the opportunity to learn about biodynamic sheep and cow farming! I was able to find out how to deal with the different diseases that cows and sheep can have, but also how to give birth to lambs! Can't wait to come back!

Rush farm has been a really good experience to us. Everyone is really welcoming and nice. Moreover the place is beautiful, and Chris has trust us with everything and allowed us to learn the streamer, the tractor... thank you for all of this. We also had the chance, even with this virus, to have Adrian as our English teacher, (you will probably see some mistakes in my text!!). We will be happy to see you again :)
