Here is essentially a place of sanctuary for nature, and people - it's in the land itself which is nestled within an ancient sacred landscape. Within that I've been protecting and creating more habitats and biodiversity, plus growing healthy food. There are now organic vegetable, fruit, flower gardens and a rather overgrown forest garden with chickens in this area. About a thousand trees have been planted in the fields and as shelter belts, and many more allowed to grow now. A large and small pond have been dug, and there is conservation grazing by a few ponies in some pastures for late summer/autumn/early winter. I'm keen to work with nature and nurture respect for all life here. There is a lot to do here and generally we get started around 9.30 finishing around 3.30/4 with an hour's lunch break, and 2 days off. In summer there's a lot of weeding, clearing, mowing, (and scything if you can), cutting back various things, trimming hedges, watering, composting making, harvesting and other things which arise. Then later there's more harvesting fruit and veg for winter storage, always weeding. Into autumn sowing green manures and prepping beds and compost for winter, cutting back overgrowth, especially brambles clearing areas including ditches, cutting wood, wood chopping. There's learning to be had both in whatever is being done, but also in observing how everything is done here, and I'm willing to share my experience and knowledge. For nearly 3 years my daughter and family (partner, sons 6 & 9 years old) now live here too, though not so involved in growing. The gardens and fields remain peaceful and restoring, and there is the added playful and bright energy of children. We generally share 3 evening meals together, and eat independently the other half, so there's quietness and family life. Lunches I generally share with wwoofers, and breakfast and the remaining suppers we do independently. We eat a lot organically and the majority of veggies grown here. Accommodation is in a small caravan on the edge of a field, beside a stream and woods. It is off grid, with a woodburner, rechargeable lamps and a gas stove for cooking. It's across the field from a standing stone radiating positive energy. Tent/s are also available for more people, in warmer weather. There is an outdoor compost loo, outdoor cold shower in summer and indoor shower limited to 3 x weekly. Wifi is available in the house for limited periods. I encourage a less virtual/screen based time here. Generally you need to be happy in your own company and in nature, as I also enjoy spending time alone especially in the evenings. We are in a small village without shops, in a rural location. It is a beautiful area of the Pembrokeshire National Park, close to the Preseli hills, rich in sacred sites, stone circles, dolmens and standing stones (including a few here). There are many beautiful walks throughout the area. The nearest shop is the garage in Eglwyswrw about 2-3 miles away and has the nearest bus stop; buses go to Newport with beaches and shops, or to Cardigan with more shops.  My daughter drives into Newport twice daily during term time and there are trips regularly to Cardigan for shopping and weekly 5 rhythms dance, and you're welcome to join on days off. Organic methods used here: generally no dig; compost made and used, currently a new system to make fast compost with microbes and minerals being trialed; mulching; nettle and comfrey teas; flowers amongst veg; windbreak using brash + young trees/shrubs; habitats for slug predators; allowing some veg to flower and self-propagate + collecting some seeds; new trial of electroculture, and growing green manure overwinter; adding sea minerals and microbiome innoculant to soil and compost; veg available from the garden almost all year; rotted down compost loo used around fruit trees; pee and ash used on compost heap; conservation grazing in fields; communication with nature.

I had a wonderful time with Janie and her family! I picked apples, harvested potatoes, weeded, cleared brambles and did lots more, so there was some variation. The shared lunches and suppers were always heavenly and the caravan is well eqipped for cooking good meals on your own. The caravan in general is super cozy and the land you're working on is really beautiful and abundant. The area is in the Pembrokeshire National Park so there are amazing walks you can take. I really liked walking along the coast and visiting the iron age village and Ty Canol forest nearby. Thanks for the good time! :)

I had such an incredible experience staying with Janie and family and experienced lots in just a short visit. The land and garden is absolutely gorgeous and it’s clear how much work, energy and love goes into it. Everybody there is so friendly and wonderful and the balance between time alone and with the family is perfect - couldn’t recommend staying enough, i’m sure I will be back!! The jobs are very manageable and enjoyable I was happy to complete them all, while there I helped with clearing brambles/overgrowth, sorting gardenbeds, harvesting and sorting fruits for storage, collecting firewood, and deweeding/planting. There’s plenty of time to explore once finished working, I don’t think i’ve ever walked more but everything in the area is so magical and beautiful I didn’t want to miss a thing - highly recommend exploring the local area the sites and views are truly one of a kind. Thank you so much Janie, Lucia, Tom and boys for such an amazing first Wwoofing experience :))

I had a lovely time volunteering with Janie. The farm is a beautiful place - small enough to know quickly but large enough to wander. Janie is very welcoming and helpful! Would highly recommend.

I had an absolutely fantastic time at [Host]. I learnt so much and became immersed in the flow of my surroundings in a truly unforgettable way! During my stay, I weeded, planted and harvested, helped and learnt to make compost, processed wood for burning and much much more. The most valuable part for me was learning the benefits and challenges of living a semi off grid lifestyle, as well as the self sufficiency that comes with it. However, even on the coldest nights, things were warm and cozy thanks to the lovely caravan with its woodburner and the bed was well stocked with blankets. Thank you to Janie, family and kids for a truly amazing time! 😁🧚🫶

My first ever Wwoofing trip! I feel very lucky that it was at this wonderful place in Wales, being looked after and taught by Janie who is the most incredible human! Even in the short amount of time I was there (Just 10 days!) It really felt at home! The caravan is very nice and cosy with the wood burning stove and everything you could need, as well as being very private after a days work for a nice chill. It was so wonderful being in the great outdoors everyday, come rain or shine (or even Snow!). Janie was very caring, chatty and understanding of my needs (as a Neurodiverse human and a first time wwoofer!) and often made delicious fresh salads from her vegetable garden for lunch with fresh eggs each day. The family dinners in the big house were absolutely scrumpcious! and the company was a lot of fun, with good conversation, card games and even surprise birthday cards from the boys and homemade cake! even though we'd only met 2 days before! It was all very sweet. The work was varied from weeding, woodchipping the garden paths, cutting back a fair amount of brambles, cutting & planting willow, collecting manure from the local stables & feeding the strawberries with it, then putting them to bed with straw before the first frost! & harvesting the Yacon roots just in time! It really was an experience I will never forget and I am ever so grateful to them all for trusting people like me (with almost no experience of farming) to support their little piece of Welsh paradise!

Thanks for the lovely review Misha. I'm sorry I forgot to include all the fruit bushes you transplanted - blueberries, apples, currants, gooseberries and strawberries - what an omission! Maybe someone will look here and see that I've said that, as I'm unable to edit my review now both ours have been published.
