Smallholding
Shropshire
Eco-house on a 2.5 ha. smallholding of meadows & small woodland at 300m. in a protected landscape (Shropshire Hills National Landscape) close to a National Nature Reserve (Stiperstones). I have two ponies, one young and training to drive and haul firewood, the other to ride. Small garden growing veg and fruit, mini-forest garden aimed at being wildlife friendly.
The work is gardening, managing fields and woodland, including wood chopping, scything, mending fences and DiY making simple equipment. Also working with ponies, developing their training, exercising, depending on WWOOFer's interest and experience.
Organic methods: I use no pesticides or artificial fertilisers. I use horse manure for fertiliser, and make compost for mulching/ planting.
Certifications: I do not sell any produce or products, so certification is unnecessary for me
Current projects: A long-term (slow) project to build a simple cabin with timber from my own woodland.

I had an absolutely perfect two weeks with Helen. Being immersed in so much wildlife and nature was such a breath of fresh air to me. There was so many new skills to learn, such as fencing, working with power tools, planting veggies and working with two beautiful ponies was such a pleasure every day- the trust that you got to build with them was so rewarding. Helen is endlessly generous and has such a wealth of knowledge, I loved having a cup of coffee with her and talking about anything from birds to her local community. She’s incredibly passionate about Shropshire- and will really give you a sense of what it means to live in the area.
Thank you so much for everything Helen- I was so sad to leave you, hope I get to come visit again :)

Thank you for Helen to accept me even though this was the first time doing WWOOF for me. Spending time in nature working with nature filled my heart with an infinite happiness and of course the best time for the stay was coffee break with Helen. Talking about her project and way of her life I asked a lot of questions because her way of living inspired me a lot and will keep as a lifelong memory in my heart for rest of my life. Thank you for being amazing and gave me a lot of love. Hope one day our way will cross again and be able to meet you again. Wishing you all the best and thank you for a beautiful week.

When I had to leave, I was feeling sad. It has been a wonderful time with you. Your household spreads a lot of peace, balance and quietness what I really enjoyed. It's a great place for thinking about yourself and gaining energy for the stressful every day life. Even the animals, the cat as well as the two ponys are balanced and friendly but not dull. On the contrary, they have got a lovely personality and a strong character.
Thanks a lot for all the enriching chats we had and for having me in general.
Thank you also for the delicious wholemeal organic food!
See you :)

We were like family with Helen and she took care us very well. Polite and culturally on the top side. You will have different works to do with ponnies, gardening, planting mostly.

Helen is very friendly and welcoming. I have food intolerances, which I shared with her in the weeks prior to arrival and she made sure that my dietary needs well really well accommodated, leaving me plenty of wonderful fresh produce to prepare my own meals.
I had a whole farmhouse to myself, with the choice of 4 bedrooms!
Helen was flexible with me with regards to the morning start time for working, which was much appreciated!
My tasks were enjoyable included mucking out the horses; schything; potting up seeds and plants, moving wood piles etc.
I would have liked a little more to do each day, as there were times I felt at a bit of a loose end, but otherwise it was a lovely experience and I hope to return, maybe with a friend with a car, so we can explore the area.
