House and garden
North Yorkshire
I have a good sized garden mainly down to fruit and vegetables. This includes a greenhouse, potting shed and covered work area. There are a number of types of fruit trees and a range of soft fruit. The annual vegetables are grown in raised beds. The garden is bordered by hedges. There are also outdoor seating areas for relaxing with a cup of tea!
My style of gardening is relaxed and wildlife friendly. There is a range of educational activities available depending on the season (see the extended description).
I live in a village 10 miles from York which has a regular day time bus service. It also has a community owned shop, a pub and a few other amenities. We are about four miles from the market town of Easingwold.
I aim to adopt a permaculture approach to my lifestyle and garden. I built a strawbale extension to my house some years ago and I am very interested in green building techniques. I am happy to share my experiences of this with others.
The learning activities we can share will range from soil preparation and sowing to planting out, weeding and harvesting. There is also hedge management and fruit pruning to be done. I enjoy helping people learn about organic gardening, especially fruit and vegetable growing.
I preserve some of my produce through making jams and chutneys, juicing, drying and freezing. Help with these tasks in season is also welcome.
I am an active member of York Organic Gardeners Association, and WWOOFers are welcome to join in group activities. It may also be possible to link up WWOOFing experiences with other members who are WWOOF hosts.
The village is situated relatively close to York but also close to the Howardian Hills and the North York Moors, both of which offer excellent walking and sight seeing opportunities.
Organic methods: I grow to organic standards as best I can.
Certifications: I am too small scale to apply for organic certification.
Current projects: Regaining some measure of control in the garden after an extended period of ill health.

I had a great week with Terry, the activities in the garden were varied. We planted and repotted the plants. I also clean the garden, wattered, removed weeds and trimmed the hedges.
Terry has a passion for gardening and also does voluntary work in the local community shop. It was a great opportunity for me and I loved it.
I was able to take part in many activities with Terry, not forgetting his adorable little dog.
Thank you again for your hospitality and for correcting my English.
I had a lovely time.

My time at Terrys was absolutely fantastic, and a great first experience woofing! Terry was an amazing host, she was very welcoming and accommodating and had so many interesting stories to share! The work was varied and interesting, I did some watering, harvesting, sowing, weeding and planting, Terry was also an amazing teacher and had lots of knowledge she was happy to share which I really appreciated! As well as the work in the garden I really enjoyed that she involved you in the community, I helped out in the community shop and got to meet many of her lovely friends, and even went to her group fitness class together.
Overall I had an amazing week at the Croppers with Terry and would highly recommend it to any woofer, I hope to return again one day! Thank you Terry!!

I had the occasion to come 2 days over the course of 2 weeks (local wwoofer) to work in Terry's garden. The garden was lovely and so was Terry. I planted and deweeded mainly. Terry talked a lot about the evolution of the garden and house and is very knowledgeable. I had a lovely time!

Spent a very lovely week with Terry ! She's very welcoming, friendly, a great cook and loves to share her knowledge in gardening which is really enjoyable ! The tasks included cleaning the garden, seeding or taking care of the compost for exemple.
She made me feel like I was at a friend's, meeting some of her friends, exploring the area on days off, going to a flower fair and eating a lot of cakes and scones !
Really was a wonderful experience,
Thank you so much Terry !

I had a great week with Terry! There was always work to be done in the garden, and my tasks included things like hedge trimming, sowing, planting, etc. I also got to generally tag along with Terry for her week in many wonderful ways, including helping out in the village community shop and meeting many of her friends! I always felt very included and welcome in her home. Terry tells great stories and is a fantastic cook. And Terry was kind enough to take me to explore the local area and the coast on a day off! Truly a great experience, thanks Terry!
