The Wild Cow Dairy! - Regenerative, cow with calf dairy farm and market garden.
Herefordshire
We are a cow with calf dairy farm which is a fully certified organic, regenerative farm. We also have a no dig vegetable garden and lots of fruit trees. We operate holistic, mindful and permaculture practices in all areas of our business. The farm has excellent modern facilities, is powered by 100% renewable energy using solar panels and is made up of mostly grass agroforestry fields where the cows graze amongst the tree rows. We have lots of wildlife areas, fruit trees, beehives, 3 rescue cats and 2 dogs - Bella and Alice.
To earn money, we operate a veg box scheme, make apple juice and the milk from the cows is pasteurised and sold to our local town of Bromyard through a milk vending machine. Viktoriia makes cheese most days to sell and Erzsebet does farm tours and cow therapy visits for people to spend time with the cows. We have a small farm shop which sells all kinds of organic ingredients from chocolate to lentils to soap.
The farm is led by a team of three women and with has a focus on personal growth, honesty and integrity. We are a safe, mindful space which is equal opportunity, diverse and we welcome LGBTQIA+.
Our Wwoof volunteers live in our Wwoof house accommodation which is quirky. Toilet, shower and everything else you will need is here - washing machine, internet, food, bicycles, bedding, wellington boots and overalls etc. You cook for yourself using the massive choice of organic ingredients which are provided for you to use from our farm shop. Vegan and vegetarian diets are actively welcomed. Meat is only available if a cow has been recently slaughtered. We often do shared community meals for everybody on farm to sit down and enjoy a relaxed lunch break.
Your work will be varied to suit the season, but on a typical day in the morning you might be helping Erzsebet to milk the cows, visiting the milk vending machine to refill it with Victoriia and then in the afternoon helping Claire out in the fields with farm repairs or fence building.
If you can't speak much English - don't worry! we will help you settle in.
The farm office is in the middle of the farm and it is a busy place with lots of people, cats, dogs and a wood burning stove. So, as our Wwoof volunteer, you can flow between social time and alone time to suit how you feel. The local town of Bromyard is 15minutes bicycle ride away and we have lots of bikes you can use. There is a gym, library, cafes, churches, pubs and small shops to explore. To get here, you would take a train to Hereford or Worcester and then a Bus to Bromyard (there are several each day). We would then pick you up from the bus stop at a pre agreed time. Basically, we aim to make the farm a "home away from home" for you as our Wwoof visitor :)
Upcoming seasonal tasks could look like this:
February: Tree planting, Fence building and farm maintenance.
March: Organising the cows, Milking, Grass field management, Tree planting, Vegetable planting and farm building repairs.
April: Work with the cows, Vegetable garden preparation, School tour visits, Bicycle repairs and farm machinery repairs.
May: School tour visits, Cow grazing management, Milking and farm maintenance.
June: Silage making and organizing the cow's winter food, School visits, Milking and electric fencing repairs.
July: Drying off the cows so they are ready for calving, school visits, hay making and clearing undergrowth from electric fences.
August: Straw bales, school visits, silage making and monitoring the cows who are about to give birth.
As a farm, we give back what we receive - enthusiastic, genuine people will be well rewarded with a responsible and interesting opportunity which may well change your life.
Please note these following T&C's:
We are not a free hotel or farm holiday camp. You come here to work with us to suit our farm needs as they evolve. Some days will be hard work - please read of our reviews first to make sure our farm is a good fit for you. No drugs or illegal stuff. If you decide our farm is the place for you then we welcome you to send us a message. Sometimes it takes us a few days to respond to messages as the farm is sometimes busy, but we will get back to you!
Safe travels and happy Wwoofing - the world needs people like you and we thank you so much for being part of the lovely Wwoof community :)
Happy days from the farm and all the Wild Cow dairy team :)

My time on [Host] Farm felt really, really special. It was perfect as a first time wwoofer, but i do believe it would also be perfect for your 100th time :)
The people there really are the best! Even if you're introverted and/or neurodivergent, they made me feel so safe just to be me and i loved every second there.
The accommodation provides everything you need and you'll feel right at home after a few days.
Every day is a bit different but you'll get into a good routine. It changes between doing jobs on your own and helping with things. When you're not around the animals you can also listen to music or a podcast.
I'm really proud that i learned how to milk the cows, drive the Quad and make bread.
So thank you, thank you, thank you! Especially to Erzsebet, Daniel and Claire :)

I had such a fantastic first WWOOF experience at [Host] Farm and would thoroughly recommend it to all wwoofers. Everyone at the farm was extremely welcoming, friendly and helpful so I settled in and felt at home right away. Although the work starts early and can be quite intense from around 5am-8am the rest of the day is quite a slow and relaxed pace with plenty of free time.
The food provided is high quality and plentiful but is all raw ingredients so all meals (including bread) are cooked from scratch by the wwoofer.
The farm and surrounding countryside is very beautiful but can be difficult to navigate on foot as the paths are quite poorly marked by British standards.

Thank you so much for welcoming me and letting me experience your farm and way of life. Even though you have had visitors over Easter, a filming crew, markets and lots happening, you have taken the time to include me, teach and show real interest!
Wish you and all the others all the best, and hope to be back soon!:)

What a wonderful 3 weeks. Claire, Dan, and the rest of the team are very welcoming and supportive.
The farm work is very well organised - cows in the morning, other farm jobs in the afternoon. They will try their best to keep the work suitable to your ability and are keen to teach you all about the cows and the business.
I am very grateful for the opportunity and can recommend anyone who is willing to get stuck in.

My experience at Wicton Farm was excellent all round. I was given a thorough induction to the farm and appreciate how seriously they take health and safety, something which remained consistent throughout my stay.
The farmers show real dedication to broadening the scope of their farming practices, trying new things and educating their visitors. I was always clear on what to do and how to do it, so working hours always felt productive and satisfying. Claire and Erzsèbet both have a real talent for instructing a task while also doing ten other things simultaneously!
The accommodation is wonderful, cosy and comfortable and everything you might need is provided. Any time I needed help or had a question someone was kind enough to sort me out. It's clear that the Wild Cow crew have put a lot of thought into the experience of their students, which is always reassuring when you arrive to a new place. Wicton Farm is an amazing example of a Wwoofing placement, and a strong positive voice in the wider agricultural community. Thank you everyone!

December 2024
I spent two amazing weeks at the farm in November 2024, and it was truly an amazing experience! The team really cares for the wellbeing of the farm, the cows and everyone who comes to be part of it (volunteers, visitors), so if you're looking for a fun and safe place where to learn about cows that are treated with respect, this is your place! Also, Claire and the team were always open to answer all my questions about how the farm run, and I was lucky to learn how to make yogurt, cheese and cream. Anything related to homesteading, they probably know ;)
The little lorry house were I stayed was the cutest tiny home I've ever lived in. One of my favorite moments of the day was after we were done milking in the morning, when we'd have a couple hours break for resting and breakfast, and I'd go to the little lorry, make myself some tea and enjoy the views from the little porch.
I highly recommend this beautiful farm, and I hope to be back some day!
