Croft
Highland
We are a friendly family on a traditional West Highland croft within a crofting township setting.
We have a fruit orchard and a vegetable garden . We have hens, a beautiful cat, and the happiest spaniel in the world.
Getting here is easy by car. Otherwise, there are trains, buses and flights to Inverness and a number of buses from Inverness to Ullapool (eg Citylink, D&E Coaches). These need to be timed to coincide with the Ullapool to Achiltibuie bus (currently operated by D&E Coaches). Googling 'Ullapool to Achiltibuie bus' usually brings up the current timetable.
We are located on the shores of Lochbroom, with the Summer Isles spread out before us in the bay.
There is a sandy swimming beach at the bottom of the croft and a burn (stream) runs through it. The mountains behind us are beautiful and there are several good walks with various degrees of difficulty. There is a local mountaineering guide as well as two kayaking instructors.
Achiltibuie is a lively village with an artists' gallery, two really good shops and two foodie hotels. The smart new village hall plays host to numerous concerts and cèilidhs during the summer months.

A lovely smallholding experience in a small community in the Highlands. I learned about the challenges rural communities face, new board games, hydroponics, Scottish dancing, strimming and of course about hens and ducks!
The surroundings are just stunning with views of the Summer Isles and the mountains. Amazing walks are everywhere with or without their happiest (and cutest) spaniel in the world!
I worked in the garden, working with the raised beds for veggies. I fixed the fence around the chicken pen and did some strimming. When it rained I painted some walls inside.
Lisa and her two teenage children are extremely welcoming as well as appreciative. It is also good to be able to work independently or as a couple at this wwoof address.
In short, a highly recommendable place to wwoof!

Would highly recommend staying with Lisa and her family! I had a wonderful time at the croft helping to look after the gang of ducks and chickens, as well as the veg garden and Lisa's pets (I may have fallen in love with her spaniel). Lisa was great at teaching me how to do the different jobs that needed doing but I also felt as though I was given independence to work on different tasks. There was also plenty of time for exploring the area and having the coastline 5 minutes walk from the house was wonderful. I don't think I've ever been somewhere so beautiful (but do pack waterproofs!). It was also really great to meet the local community and I enjoyed going to their summer gathering and the ceilidh afterwards. The house is also lovely to stay in and has a big well lit garden/sitting room you can hangout in but as you stay in a small house to the side of Lisa's you also get your own space.

Lisa and her family were absolutely wonderful. One of the best wwoofing experiences, I had the pleasure of having. Lisa is extremely knowledgeable, hospitable, kind, and forthcoming. I was constantly learning new things on the croft and around the village, I was regularly welcomed and invited to local community events as well as social events. The opportunities to get to know the area and the people were vast and immensely diverse, there truly was never a dull day. The work was consistent to what was needed through the week, I found the workload very courteous but very fulfilling. Working with the beautiful arrangement of poultry there was always something to keep up with as I learned quite a bit about how to keep them and tend to their enclosure; also that they are cute but mischievous. I felt very comfortable in the environment as it was very relaxed and with the strong courtesy it felt like a second home. Wonderful conversation and exceptional friendships I find it hard to find a better host. Thank you Lisa for the amazing opportunity and lovely experience!!!

We had a wonderful time at Lisa's place! It was very quiet an calm. We are in love with Buidheag, the dog! We love the one hour walk to the store with a perfect view over the bay and the summer islands. Unexpectedly life in West Acheninver with 3 chrildren works without a car. We took care of the chickens, ducks, a cat and the dog and found other useful things to do. Lisa is very open hearted and with a lot of positive engergy and trust. We learned a lot about scottish history and how to do coastal rowing! Thanks a lot for these short but deep insights into your life!

Peaceful and beautiful, it's how i would describe the place where Lisa and her family are. The garden brings some work to do, it's very satisfying to see it change. Between the ducks, dog and cats, you will have compagnie during the day. And wonders to discover around the house.
