Livestock farm
Devon
Hello!
We are Tim and Suzy Wall and we are dairy farmers.
This winter we are particularly looking for enthusiastic people to help with calving. Our cows all spend the winter outside in the fields eating grass and hay and have their calves outside. We go out each morning to see how many babies the new day has brought! It can be cold and wet and hard work but very rewarding.
We farm just outside the tiny Devon village of East Worlington.
We have nearly 300 Jersey cows and milk them twice a day on a rotary milking parlour that Tim designed and built himself.
Our cows live outside grazing on grass 365 days of the year, they only eat grass and in winter have hay as well. We don't use massive tractors and just have a very old Massey Tractor which Tim spends more time underneath fixing than driving. We try to grow our own vegetables but our veggie garden is sadly neglected and needs some TLC. We make our own butter from our cows' milk and would love to try making cheese.
We really like having people come and stay with us in our home and enjoy large meals together around our enormous kitchen table. We particularly love it when guests cook for us! We have a large house with plenty of bedrooms although you are welcome to camp in the fields

Absolutely amazing!! Thank you for this marvelous time I could spend at your farm. I could not have imagined it any better.
I've spend 10 weeks at [Host] and it was just terrific. I have learned a lot about dairy farming and got the opportunity to try a lot of jobs on my own. I helped cows with calving, took care about the calves, made ear tagging, castrade, dehorned calves and gave them pain killers (for dehorning). I was also milking on the huge rotatory parlour, which was really impressive.
Tim and Suzy are really welcoming people and made me feel as a part of the family <3 My whole experience on this farm with the cows and calves, the host family and the other WWOOFers was just great. I can absolutely recommend this farm for a WWOOF stay! I will definitely come back one day :)
with love Lea <3

I stayed here for 5 weeks and had an amazing time. My first 3 weeks were spent working on the calving side of things. We did field checks identifying calves+mums and bringing them down from the field, bedding up,milking newly calved mums for high colostrum milk, latching calves+teaching them to suckel, and measuring out the herds' next grass portion+fencing . I also got to do ear tagging.dehorning, and castrating. My last 2 weeks were at the dairy where we did morning+evening milking(what a fantastic, cool, and efficient parlor!) ,fencing and the random odd job. Tim &Suzy are truly kind and welcoming people, you instantly feel at home with them and their cat+dog are the sweetest. There were other WWOOFers+workers here during my stay as well which was lovely. I couldn't recommend their farm enough, being present for the calving season was awesome and I hope to come back to experience more aspects of their operation another time .

I had a wonderful six weeks on the dairy farm. Tim and Suzy made me feel welcome and at home from the very beginning. It was also great fun working in a team with other WWOOFers every day. I worked four days a week and then had three days off. The tasks included milking, lots of fencing, and everything else that needs to be done to keep a dairy farm running.
My first WWOOF experience couldn’t have been better!

Had a wonderful time at Rackleigh Farm:) I got to help with the end of the calving season and learn how to milk! Work was varied but interesting- from milking the cows to planting veggies, and I enjoyed every second of it. Tim and his family were very welcoming and kind, a highlight was definitely the delicious dinners we would have together. This was my first WWOOFing experience and I couldn’t have asked for a better host! Thankyou Tim and Suzy for having me, I miss your farm, the cows, Snowy and Cat already:)))

I had an incredible five weeks with Tim and Suzy at [HOST] Farm! I was at the farm during calving season so the days were full of field checks, taking care of the calves, and more. The work is not light but it is enjoyable and rewarding. Each day ended with a big meal around the dinner table with everyone, getting to share stories of the day. Everyone at the farm made me feel incredibly welcome from the first day and I learned so much during my time here. This is the coolest thing I’ve ever done and I would recommend it to anyone interested in working with cows or getting their hands dirty. Thanks for everything!
