House and productive vegetable garden, rare breed ducks. Developing pollinator and heritage orchard.

⭐ ANNOUNCEMENT! ⭐
If you are at a loose end over the 🎄 Festive or End of Year period 🎄 and would like a cosy place to stay, we’ve got space for Wwoofers here! 🌿✨
Drop us a line — we would love to hear from you 😊
Wwoofers are made very welcome to our small friendly organic hillside garden located upon the tranquil countryside fringes of the Brecon Beacons National Park in South Wales, UK.
We are not a farm, but extensively grow vegetables upon garden scale plots and in a wildlife friendly way. We do not sell our produce, with much being given away to community projects helping people on low incomes.
We offer seasonal opportunities where Wwoofers can help out around the garden in learning about crop cultivation for traditional and no dig vegetable produce growing beds, as well as contribute to the continued development of a biodiversity rich wildlife orchard garden area. We maintain an easy going approach, where expected activity is a variety of fairly light duties and for no more than just a few hours each day, although this may nevertheless require a certain level of physical fitness and aptitude, in aiming to provide a rewarding Wwoofer experience.
Our crop growing became established about fifteen years ago as part of a project called Growing Together, which still regularly hosts events, seeking to work with other local food growers to encourage people in communities to make best use of small plots of land or shared garden spaces, so they can grow food in a cooperative sustainable way. Wwoofers may gain opportunities if they want to become involved with events, in achieving their intended aspirations or learning about sustainability, community food resilience and crop growing.
All organic practices are adhered to in growing with nature, including the use of composts and companion planting. Growing areas in total are not particularly large, but nevertheless over the last few years many Wwoofers have helped us greatly in restoring land, to the point where it has returned to a diverse example of sustainable small-scale growing and a microcosm for biodiversity.
Wwoofer tasks mirror the seasons. In spring help is required getting crops ready for propagation both outside and in polytunnel /greenhouses. This continues into the main summer months with tending a wide range of crops, through to during the autumn when late harvesting and autumn tidy-ups take place. Lots of other jobs tend to get done as well, such as preparing ground with compost, tending grasslands and heritage orchard trees for pollinators, maintaining hedges and small construction works such as repairing fences.
We also have a poultry area for a small flock of friendly ducks. Wwoofers sharing in looking this feature is always appreciated.
----------------
There are lots of interesting nearby places for Wwoofers to explore during their stay, with our being upon the south western edge of the National Park and close to scenic coastlines. Also with access to cultural highlights, including those in not too far away Swansea and Cardiff.
--------------
We have a well equipped kitchen providing good home cooked meals featuring plenty of mainly vegetarian wholefoods, with regular fresh bread baking as well. All food is provided, where Wwoofers are actively encouraged to share any favourite foods or meals they like to cook. All Wwoofer dietary preferences are fully met.
We provide excellent quality private room accommodation for all our Wwoofer stays as single or couples and occasionally those with a child. This includes good wifi / internet access, showers and laundry. The accommodation has central heating and a large wood burning stove, so is always nice and warm.
---------------
In travelling to us, arrangements can be made for Wwoofers to be picked up from our nearest Mainline Railway Station, which is Neath. We can also pick up at the regional bus stations in Brecon or Swansea, as well as places serviced by local buses near to us. If Wwoofers are arriving by air, we can do pick-ups at either Cardiff or Bristol Airports.
There is off-road parking for any Wwoofers who arrive by car, which could also accommodate a small camper van.
---------------
Floss is our resident sheepdog. She loves to be around people, likes to play and go for walks. Wwoofers will be expected to let Floss out in the garden and watch over her from time to time.

Chris is an extremely generous host who loves having people to stay and is inclusive and understanding. He was very kind to host me so I could attend the wales food and farming conference, and then I spent the rest of the week trimming back laurel and ivy for the winter, playing with floss, cooking occasionally but mostly enjoying his lovely home cooked food. Chris is a great cook! He’s very knowledgeable about the area and keen that you get the most out of your stay. Thank you very much for having me :)

I had a wonderful three-week stay with Chris in Wales!
Chris is a great host and good company, he made me feel comfortable. I helped him with various outdoor tasks: cleaning the greenhouses before winter, harvesting artichokes, sowing beans, and much more.
Beyond the work, Chris also took the time to show me around the beautiful surrounding area, the landscapes are truly stunning. His lovely dog Floss is adorable, and I really enjoyed our walks around the house.
It was a very positive and rewarding experience for me; and I have to say, Chris is also an excellent cook!

I spent almost three weeks with Chris and Floss, and I enjoyed every moment.
Since it was the end of the season, there wasn’t much gardening to do, but Chris always made sure I had enjoyable tasks. On rainy days, I painted the ceiling, which I truly enjoyed from start to finish. I also did some outdoor work, like mixing concrete, moving soil, and laying the turf. Cleaning the duck house every morning was such a pleasant way to start the day.
Chris also took me to some wonderful places to walk, explore, and eat! I had the chance to try some amazing British food :) We also prepared meals together, and I learned many new recipes to try at home.
And Floss, Floss, Floss — maybe one of my favorite puppies in the world! I had such a wonderful time looking after her. I will never forget our playtimes throughout the day and her sleeping on my bed every night.
Staying with Chris and Floss was truly a wonderful experience. I sincerely hope to come back again.

Thanks to Chris and Floss, my first WWOOF experience was truly wonderful.
The ten days I spent there were very special and unforgettable.
Since it was the end of the season, there wasn’t too much work, but Chris always explained the tasks clearly and kindly. This made me feel comfortable, even though my English is not perfect. I really enjoyed taking care of the ducks, the garden and Floss.
He also took me to visit different places in Wales during the free time. As I run a café in Japan, visiting a coffee roaster was a highlight for me.
The meals were excellent, and I enjoyed learning about local dishes such as rabbit pie and lamb recipes.
We also had many good conversations while driving and eating together, and I learned a lot from him.
This stay gave me even more motivation to continue learning about organic farming.
I am very grateful for all the hospitality.
Thank you so much, Chris — and thank you Floss, for always being there.
I really hope to come back again one day.

I spent a week with Chris and had a wonderful time. He was a great host—kind, thoughtful, and always making sure the tasks suited me. Together we worked on digging out bamboo and building a new stone wall in his garden.
Chris also took the time to show me some beautiful spots around Wales. He’s good company, very knowledgeable, and ypu can learn a lot from him. The food was delicious, and I was glad to be able to share one of my own recipes with him as well.
Floss is absolutely lovely—always ready for a cuddle or a bit of play.
Thank you, Chris, for the great stay and all the best!
