Smallholding
Cornwall
Silverwell is a 5 and a half acre small-holding consisting of 3 east sloping fields grazed by pgymy goats, woodland, a small orchard, raised beds, polytunnels and chickens. We are interested in managing the land using organic principals to improve biodiversity and improve soil health. As a training clinical herbalist, I am particularly interested in growing medicinal herbs for making tinctures and teas and wild harvesting from the woods and hedgerows in a sustainable way ( please note that I am not qualified yet and am studying 30 hrs a week so am not always hands on). We grow fruit and vegetables and keep chickens for eggs. The land was completely overgrown with brambles when we arrived 3 years ago, so our small-holding is a work in progress. You will be helping us bring it to life.
Organic methods: using biodynamic principals
Certifications: we are looking at the possibility of being ceritified
Current projects: hedgerow planting and maintenance, woodland maintenance, planting willow for coppicing, development of a medicinal herb garden. caring for newly planted trees, planting vegetables using biodynamic principles. re-establishing some neglected fields by conservation grazing with the help of pygmy goats.

Emma and Trevor are both thoroughly sound people and an easygoing couple to spend time with. We went on a few outings together, shared good meals, had plenty of work to do and the accommodation was comfortable. I felt welcomed into their life and would happily go back to see them again. Recommended hosts!

I really enjoyed my stay with Emma and Trevor. They are really great hosts and made me feel very welcome. There was a wide variety of work for me to do in a really pretty location. I'd 100% reccomend if you're looking to wwoof in Cornwall!

I stayed with Emma and Trev for one week in February 2024, and helped with weeding and clearing brambles in the garden. The work was well-explained and well-paced, and tasks done in the shelter of the polytunnel accounted for the unreliability of the Cornish winter weather.
Most importantly, however, Emma and Trev's down-to-earth personalities made me feel right at home, even though this was my first experience with WWOOF. I felt so taken care of – from Emma allowing me to use her Welly boots to Trev offering to drive me to my next hostel. They have such a sweet and cozy way of life, and it was fantastic getting to know them and their two sweet dogs.
Emma and Trev, I am so grateful for your hospitality! I wish you the best going forward and hope to visit Cornwall again at some point :)
