Permaculture Community Garden in Somerset
Somerset
About Us & the Land
Welcome to our Gardens: a small, soulful community project nestled in the Somerset countryside, where we’re gently transforming five acres of field into a thriving, biodiverse sanctuary for people, plants, and wildlife.
We’re not a polished eco-centre or a bustling farm; we’re a family-rooted, land-loving, grassroots project slowly growing into something beautiful and real.
At the heart of it all is our little team:
🌿 Grandad John: tending his tomatoes, keeping bees, and always up for a cuppa and a story.
🌸 Mama Mandala: nature devotee, space-holder, food grower, yogi, and keeper of the vision.
🔨 Pete: a natural builder with a big heart and a toolbelt, happiest when making or fixing something.
👣 Two small wildlings: aged 3 and 4, who fill the land with laughter, mess, and magic.
🐔 Eleven mischievous rescue chickens: they’ll trail after you like feathery shadows.
Together, we’re reimagining how to live: growing food regeneratively, restoring biodiversity, building with natural materials, and creating a space where people can reconnect with themselves and the Earth.
What We’re Creating
Our vision is rooted in permaculture, community care, and deep respect for the land. Current projects include:
No-dig vegetable gardens and a young food forest
Creative outdoor spaces for reflection, ritual, and rest
Natural building (compost toilets, small shelters, etc.)
Rewilding and planting for pollinators
Welcoming families, volunteers, and retreat guests
Offering forest school, camping, and community events
This is a space for hands-in-the-soil, boots-in-the-mud living: full of imperfections, learning, and beauty.
What You’ll Do
We ask for around 20 hours a week of your energy in exchange for simple caravan-based accommodation and simple plant-based meals (or 10 hours/week in exchange for camping only).
You’ll get involved with:
🌱 Land & Garden Work – weeding, planting, harvesting, chicken care, seed propagation, food forest development
🎨 Creative Projects – painting signs, designing nature-based spaces, helping with long-term features like a plant medicine bed
🛠️ Practical Work – natural building, tool care, compost systems, fixing & making
🍲 Food & Community – cooking with seasonal produce, preserving harvests, sharing meals and recipes
💻 Optional digital support – website, social media, or anything else you’re skilled at
You don’t need to be an expert, just willing to learn, take initiative, and work with care and curiosity.
What We Offer in Exchange
✨ A real, grounded experience of nature-connected living.
✨ A chance to contribute to something meaningful and see it grow.
✨ A peaceful setting where your emotions, creativity, and energy are welcome.
You’ll receive:
Camping accommodation (tent or van pitch) or a spot in our cosy on-site caravan
Plant-based meals made with love (from the land when possible)
Shared mealtimes, occasional yoga or meditation, and space to rest or explore
Time to yourself, and time in community, /balanced in a way that honours your rhythm
Life Here Is... Quiet, simple, and real.
Mornings might begin with harvesting herbs or weeding the beds while the mist lifts from the hills.
Afternoons might bring shared cooking, wood-stacking, sign-painting, or simply lying in the grass.
Evenings might mean firelight, meditation, story-sharing, a walk in the fields, or early to bed beneath the stars.
There’s space for solitude, creativity, and connection, depending on what you’re needing.
We live simply, and ask that you bring flexibility, kindness, and willingness to share space with children, chickens, and changeable weather.
Local Area & Lifestyle
We’re in the small village of Spaxton, with a shop and a pub, but no public transport.
The stunning Quantock Hills are just 3 miles away, perfect for hikes and wild wanders.
We often take family walks, which you're welcome to join.
Nearby adventures include moors, coastlines, sacred sites, and sweet Somerset villages (if you have transport).
Who This Is For
✨ You love working outdoors and don’t mind getting muddy.
✨ You’re self-led, grounded, and happy to muck in as part of a family rhythm.
✨ You’re drawn to Earth care, simplicity, and conscious living.
✨ You want to learn, contribute, connect, and leave the land better than you found it.
This is a place for people who want to give and grow, not just pass through or get a free holiday.
A Final Note
We’re still at the beginning of our journey: there are weeds to clear, systems to refine, and plenty of unknowns. But the land is alive, the community is forming, and the work is rich with meaning.
If you feel a spark of recognition reading this, we’d love to hear from you.
Come as you are.
Bring your boots and your heart.
Let’s grow something beautiful together.

I had such a lovely time at Splatt Farm Gardens! Amanda and her beautiful family were the nicest hosts I could have hoped for. It was my first wwoofing experience and I stayed for a week. Working in the field had such a meditative impact on me, it really calmed my mind. Amanda always made sure I had everything I needed so I'd feel comfortable and she answered all of my questions patiently.
They included me in their family time, showed me places, cooked delicious vegan meals and we had the most interesting talks. I would definitely recommend going to Splatt Farm Gardens as a Wwoofer!

Loved our time here at Splat Farm. Amanda and Pete were so welcoming and relaxed and gave us the space to work and heal in a way that was both therapeutic for us and beneficial to the farm. We had some beautiful moments sharing food, yoga and meditation and the whole experience was magical. The farm is also close to some powerful nature walks and historical sites. I would recommend this farm if you want a back to nature healing vibe and to connect with soul tribe.

Splat farm is my first wwoof experience and we could not have chosen a better place to start, or better hoasts.
Amanda and Pete are absolutely so lovely and welcoming, the children are amazing and we have felt right at home here.
We will definitely be back and feel like we have made friends for life.
I have learned so much already and look forward to future times here x
