Small community working on permaculture and Christian spirituality
Suffolk
1. Describe your project, your place, and its inhabitants (including animals):
We live in a medieval farmhouse on 15 acres, much of which is left as "natural regeneration", some of which we're gently teasing back into productivity. It's very peaceful, lots of trees and birds and stars.
There are 5 residents in the farmhouse, plus Mart in a van, plus visitors. WWOOFers will be accommodated in a beautiful room in the farmhouse. We live as a family and share meals and jobs. Some of us go out to work too.
Our family also includes a lovely big golden retriever, a crazy puppy, three cats, chickens and two Icelandic horses.
We're aiming to be self-sufficient, learning to use our polytunnel and starting to make compost and claim back some of the fields from the brambles.
2. List the activities that WWOOFers will participate in and what you want to teach them:
Activities depend on the season, but might include caring for vegetable plants at various stages including harvesting and processing (eg. juicing) and cooking; working with compost, fencing, helping to sort out horse pastures, caring for fruit trees, herbs and hedgerows.
Our horses are very friendly and love to be groomed - and you might even get a ride!
We can teach veg growing and fruit processing and horse care.
We're good listeners and this is a great place for a retreat in between work. Our main crop is Peace!
Very happy to hear from experienced WWOOFers who can teach us too!
3. What could a WWOOFer's day look like at your site (time slot for participation in activities, expectations...)?
We get up and feed the animals between 8 and 9 before breakfast, and WWOOFers often like to do this, then we'll do a few hours in the polytunnel or veg beds or hedgerows and you'll have some time free too. Three good meals of course, mostly veggie but with occasional "happy" meat.
We aim to stop for a few minutes of quiet prayer or meditation together two or three times a day.
4. Play the guide! Talk about your own hobbies (music, cooking, etc.) and those possible around (hiking, swimming, etc.):
We encourage creativity and have lots of resources for art and music. If you can play we'll have a bit of a jam in the evenings, or go to the local Open Mic. Cooking on the Aga for between 6 and 10 people is fun and we all enjoy taking turns. We also read, do jigsaws, play board games, swim. We usually have a film night on Sundays!
We run a 'forest church' once a month, with stories and contemplation around a fire. Some of us also go to church or the Quakers on Sundays but that's entirely optional of course! We love visiting the local markets and generally joining in local community events.
The Stour Valley is a beautiful area with lots of opportunities for walks and visiting quaint and historical sites, if you have your own transport. We also have bikes you can borrow.

I had the most amazing time at the farm, the people where friendly and there was a great feeling of community at all times. The working hours are very doable and the work itself is enjoyable and I was able to learn many things about the animals and growing your own fruits and vegetables. I highly recommend the farm :)

I had three wonderful weeks with you. I learned so much not just English, but your way of life and how peaceful this place is. It’s such a nice change from the city 🤣
You were so patient and always smiling, and somehow we understood each other even without words, women are women haha. Honestly, you were like a mother to me during these weeks, always looking after me.
Your horses are amazing, and they really reflect their owner it’s true! I’m sure we’ll see each other again one day.
P.S. I’m sure you’ll win the elections! Lovely 💛

I had an amazing time at [Host] Farm during my stay in March 2026! Although it was short, I still got to experience the warmth and hospitality of Sara and the lovely community living on the farm (you’ll have many great conversations with them!). There are also many adorable animals, and you’ll definitely enjoy spending time with them :)
Life at [Host] Farm follows a daily routine, with tasks like feeding the animals, along with other activities such as gardening and cleaning, nothing too complicated or difficult. It felt fulfilling to contribute there! There are also puzzles, books, and games that you can enjoy during your free time, so you definitely won’t be bored.
The stay was incredibly comfortable and truly felt like a home away from home. I would love to visit [Host] Farm again!

The community is very kind and friendly. I love that there is a fixed routine in the house, feeding chickens and horses at 8.30am, going for a 15-minutes quiet time, then having breakfast. After breakfast till 1pm will be helping out chores around the farm, then we will have some quiet time before lunch. The routine and quiet time is something that I think is helpful for WWOOFers and the hosts to plan their time. There is always something interesting to do and we are grateful to spend time with this lovely community.

I had a incredible stay in the farm. Sara, Mike, the community and the animals are wonderful and you never feel alone in the house. The work is only in the mornings : take care of the animals (food/clean), planting seeds, planting grass, preparing bed for the plants, horse riding. You don't need any special experience to join us; Sara will take the time to show you everything and teach you . The afternoons are free so you can read, cook, go on a walk with the dog and rest. This farm is great if you want to spend time with people, relax, enjoy nature, and learn more about sustainable life.

I felt really welcomed into the community at rising hope by Sara, Mike and the other residents. The house and land is quirky and beautiful. There was a fun variety of jobs and Sara tries to make sure multiple WWOOFERS are present which I think made my stay more enjoyable. I appreciated just working in the morning and enjoyed time in the afternoon exploring the pretty towns/villages nearby and playing in the music studio. I really felt like a guest and appreciate all that Sara and Mike put in to make my stay enjoyable.
