1. Describe your project, your place, and its inhabitants (including animals): We are two brothers and a dog living on a property within 150 acres of arable farm land. We have several farming projects including a market garden with polytunnel used for growing edible flowers, herbs and vegetables for the property and local markets. We have just planted pumpkin patch and like to try experiments using homemade composts, organic fertilisers and permaculture principles. We also have a country garden with perennial flowers and shrubs . Finally, we have an indoor micro vertical farm that supplies local restaurants and shops with micro salad and herbs. 2. List the activities that WWOOFers will participate in and what you want to teach them: WWOOFers will get the chance to participate in various projects we have ongoing. Tasks include the likes of composting, laying woodchip, construction, gardening tasks such as sowing, weeding, watering and planting. We use no dig principles so there is a lot of moving and laying compost and materials. You may get the chance to experience helping in the vertical farm where there is always plenty of harvesting and sowing to be done. 3. How will you feed and house WWOOFers? Please describe your accommodations and plan for meals: We have 2 guest caravans for you to choose from so you will have your own personal space which will be clean and fully equipped for your stay. Shower/bath and toilet is available nearby. You will have use of a kitchen facility to prepare your own meals with food which you like, provided by us. There will also be food from the garden and shared meals. Anyone on the team is welcome to a chance at cooking and preparing meals for us to enjoy together. 4. What could a WWOOFer's day look like at your site (time slot for participation in activities, expectations...)? WWOOFers will be sharing our experience of daily routine with a varied task list around the farm. We are very flexible and prioritise making it fun and educational for our guests. With our gardens all being a distance apart it means that you will get plenty of exercise and fresh country air. Throughout the week you would be shadowing each of us Brothers, Dan in the morning and Ron in the afternoons. You will have plenty of time to relax and explore the local area. We live in Scotland so prepare for changeable weather. 5. Play the guide! Talk about your own hobbies (music, cooking, etc.) and those possible around (hiking, swimming, etc.): There are plenty of country paths and a local coffee hut within 10 minutes walk. The coast is about 15 minutes by bike (which we can loan) and the closest town is a 20 minute walk away through the forest. The bus stop is a 15 minute walk which allows you to travel to Elgin and explore further afield. We have many interesting sites around including castle ruins, church ruins and an RAF base where fighter jets take off throughout the week. We like circus and performing arts and have lots of space to practise cart wheels. Yoga is practised here especially when there is some downtime at the weekend. We are also partial to a game of outdoor badminton and welcome you to join in. Captain the dog is always open to a wee run and a game of tuggy

Dan and Ron are great hosts. Welcoming and easy to get along with. They are both passionate about what they do and happy to answer any questions. There was also plenty to do in the surrounding area, with lots of great spots to explore during my time off. The coast is walking distant and there is a castle ruin across the road. My time was varied and interesting. No two days were the same. Overall great experience.

Great hosts, beautiful farm, & great location! I spent 3 weeks in October here and had a wonderful time. The tasks are varied - there are plenty of projects going on so you get to practice/learn lots of skills. If you like hiking (or running or cycling) there are lots of great places to explore. Cute coastal towns, old churches, farms roads, lots of wildlife. Ron & Dan were also kind enough to pick up/drop off when they could which was super helpful. Yummy meals, good chat, lots to do, beautiful setting - can’t recommend it enough! Thanks Ron & Dan!

From the tasks we did, i took away significant and valuable knowledge and found it very enjoyable. Its a beautiful property, theres lots to see and do. The meals we had were delicious. The Accommodation was comfortable and has everything you need. Dan and Ron both have a wealth of knowledge, and i learned alot from them. I had a a terrific experience at the Shempston Farm, with Dan, Ron, and Captain.

[Host] was my first Wwoofing experience, and I can't imagine a better place to start than with Dan and Ron. Although I had only signed up for a short stay, I got a chance to try out a number of different operations I was interested in: from weeding to sowing, sorting and packaging greens and planting pumpkins. I learned so much, both Ron and Dan were super open to my questions about organic farming, about how they think about the business and the community element, and shared both their expertise and life experiences in a way that made me feel connected, safe, and very excited to learn. I highly recommend this experience.

Yasmeen wwoofed with us and was a joy to have on the farm. She was fun, inquisitive, and brought a genuinely positive energy to our cultural exchange. We learned about her experiences as a student in the USA and the contrasts with her culture in Saudi Arabia, which sparked some interesting conversations. Yasmeen approached every experience here with an open mind, was highly efficient in an operational environment, and left her space clean and tidy. She was well organised and would be a wonderful addition to any team.

This was my first WWOOFing experience, and Dan and Ron were incredible hosts. I spent about 5 hours a day helping Dan with his microgreens operation, packing, washing, sowing, as well as with his lettuce polytunnel and edible flower garden. I also worked with Ron in his pumpkin patches, greenhouse, polytunnel, and community garden veggie plots. I learned a ton about the day-to-day of running small-scale growing operations, from seed to harvest. Dan and Ron were both super generous with their knowledge and always happy to explain things as we worked. Captain, their dog, is the absolute cutest. The surrounding countryside is beautiful, and I loved exploring parts of the Moray Coast during my time off. Another one of the highlights was the Sunday dinners with their lovely mum Rae; all in all, such a rewarding and memorable experience!

I stayed at Shempston for my 4th and last WWOOFing experience, and it was wonderful ! Dan and Ron (and Captain !) are the greatest hosts, warm welcoming and careful that you have anything you need. The accommodation is great, the tasks in which you'll be helping are various as Dan is working on his micro greens and Ron is running his community garden. They both are great cooks, they know how to keep things fun and entertaining and their joy is contagious. There are some spots that you can visit by walk near the farm and if you need a ride, feel free to ask. There's also a bus stop nearby. I absolutely recommend them and I urge you to stay there because otherwise you will miss something. I only regret one thing : not asking them if I could have stayed one more week.
