1. Describe your project, your place, and its inhabitants (including animals): We are Steve and Anna, we love to make things and grow food with an aim towards self sufficiency, taking inspiration and guidance from permaculture and no dig principals. Reviving a small croft - (2.5 acres). We have 2 dogs and 2 cats and chickens. We are happy to share all we have learned so far on our journey and are particularly looking for a skills exchange. We would love to host Wwoofers with skills for us to learn from too. Most of the year our shepherd's hut is used as a holiday rental, but it will be your cosy home while you stay with us. We are in a rural situation in the far north Highlands, we are lucky enough to benefit from amazing scenery, access to lovely walks and not too far from the town of Historic Dornoch with gorgeous beaches. 2. List the activities that WWOOFers will participate in and what you want to teach them: Season dependant - seed sowing, preparation/tidy of vegetable garden and general garden maintenance, gorse clearing, woodland management including coppicing and green woodworking, fibre skills, including spinning, weaving, fibre prep and processing, other crafts, food preserving. 3. How will you feed and house WWOOFers? Please describe your accommodations and plan for meals: A cosy shepherd's hut with double bed and woodburner and nearby compost loo with veggie garden outdoor shower. (Indoor hot shower available too!) A flexible approach to meals. There is a well stocked small independent kitchen area for use by WWOOFers if required but happy to provide and share meals too. 4. What could a WWOOFer's day look like at your site (time slot for participation in activities, expectations...)? Weather permitting, we could be sharing skills in the morning - from 9 am, finishing no later than 5pm, around 5 hours per day max. Flexible highland timings! 5. Play the guide! Talk about your own hobbies (music, cooking, etc.) and those possible around (hiking, swimming, etc.): Hobbies?! Bimbling around on our croft and garden mostly. Enjoying the rhythms of Highland life, weaving, making, cooking good food. Saturday night is Pizza night! Gorgeous hill walks and lochs on our door step, 5 miles from local beach, very safe for swimming.

There are places you never really leave. At Anna and Steve’s, I found much more than a woofing experience. I found a small world suspended in time, made of patience, gentleness, and honest, simple work. Each day taught me something new, to listen to the wind, to understand the wool, to feel the quiet rhythm of the garden. Anna and Steve are wonderfully kind hosts, patient, caring, always ready to share without ever imposing. You learn, you laugh, you work, always with the feeling that you belong, even when you’re far from home. And then there’s Phin … That dog with the biggest heart, far too lovable for his own good. Be careful, he will steal a piece of you every time he looks at you with those tender eyes. Thank you for this moment of peace, nature, and humanity. I’m leaving with more skill in my hands, a lighter heart, and a fuller soul.
