Small mixed farm and woodland on the edge of the Black Mountains, growing food and coppicing
Herefordshire
We are a 48 acre hillside farmstead with woodland and market garden area, where we live with our 2 children and dog, along with some sheep, pigs, chickens and ducks. Regenerative and rewilding approaches to small scale growing and grazing.
WWOOFers usually participate in general weeding no-dig veg beds and polytunnel. Process compost. Apple harvesting and pressing. Wood processing and stacking from coppiced woodland. General sustainable living practices.
Accommodation depends on the time of year and varies from a Bell Tent, guest room in our house and at times, if available, our self-catering holiday let barn. Access to shower room and toilet in our house, as well as a compost toilet, and separate kitchen area. Depending on time of year and numbers meals will provided with family or separately.
Depending on time of year and what works for individuals, a WWOOFers day will include helping on the land with others in morning for 2-3 hours, and then again in the afternoon after lunch.
We live in an amazing and beautiful area and will be happy to share it with you. Stunning views of the Black Mountains from the whole site mean you don't need to leave to enjoy a walk. There is access from the site to footpaths to explore the wider area on foot for great walking. Local river for a swim and pub, plus nearby village shop and castle, and lots more

Just spent a tiring but lovely four days at the farm, along with my daughter who came in preparation for studying ecology.
The farm is pretty and peaceful, and hosts Matt and Polly are friendly and welcoming. They are knowledgeable and well-organised in running the farm, offering WWOOF activities covering fruit and vegetable growing, woodland management and feeding the animals. The work did get physically challenging at times (maybe due to the heat wave), but all the more satisfying to watch the progress being made.
We stayed in the holiday-let next to the farmhouse, rustically beautiful and equipped with all the facilities we could want – I particularly appreciated the coffee grinder and complementary beans! The brown instruction cards all around the house really showed the thoughtfulness of the hosts. There was plenty of food provided, and meals eaten with the family were delicious and healthy.
Work hours left plenty of time for relaxing and exploring – from the farm's mountain setting you can walk down the hill to a village with a beautiful flowery bridge over the river. Numerous mountain walks are nearby – we managed two hikes and a visit to a priory in the evenings during our stay.
My daughter is into birding and was pleased to hear Tawny Owls from the farm at night, observe the active Flycatcher nest in the woodshed and photograph a Kingfisher by the river.
Many thanks to Matt and Polly for a great first WWOOFing experience!

Wonderful week with Matt and Polly and the other volunteer. Variety of work - pruning apple trees, woodland work, fencing etc. Beautiful setting and welcoming hosts. Would recommend!

The setting (in a beautiful valley), variety of work, accommodation, food, coffee and working hours and conditions were all excellent. As for the host and family, they were even better! I can’t wait to return, even if it’s just for Matt’s home made sourdough.
