Small veganic, off-grid, forest farm in East Kent, UK
Kent
1. Describe your project, your place, and its inhabitants (including animals):
We are a small (7.5ha) veganic (vegan organic), forest farm. We are off-grid (rainwater, solar, woodfuel) and use no single use plastic or concrete. We do not plough or till. Veganic farming does not use any farmed animals or farmed animal products, no synthetic chemicals and no GMOs. We build soil through green manure, woodchip mulches and no dig. We only grow perennial crops, primarily fruit and nut trees. We have a short supply chain (c. 5 mile radius) and all deliveries are by electric vehicle.
2. List the activities that WWOOFers will participate in and what you want to teach them:
Planting (trees and other perennial crops), harvesting, weeding/mowing/scything, maintenance and care of plants, simple repairs (e.g. to fencing, gates etc.)
Possibly opportunities for helping to build our barn and other agricultural buildings (greenhouse, pole barn).
Experience of eco building, mechanics, engineering very welcome but compassionate and open attitude and calm, open personality are the main attributes needed.
Learning opportunities - growing/farming veganically, forest farming/agroforestry, food forests, alley cropping, permaculture approaches, natural/low impact/no dig farming, off-grid working and living, eco building, funding and set up for small-scale agroecological farming, education approaches and outreach.
3. How will you feed and house WWOOFers? Please describe your accommodations and plan for meals:
We have one showperson's (like a Gypsy) wagon - sleeping up to 5 if family. 4 if individuals but all in one bedroom.
It has its own shower and loo block - compost toilet.
Meals will not be cooked but all ingredients provided. Vegan only on site, including companion animals.
4. What could a WWOOFer's day look like at your site (time slot for participation in activities, expectations...)?
24 hours/week - flexible according to time of year and needs of farm. Can be worked out with each WWOOFer. People need to be at least vegan on site.
We are a no alcohol, no smoking site as we respect all life and want to live as compassionately and mindfully as possible.
5. Play the guide! Talk about your own hobbies (music, cooking, etc.) and those possible around (hiking, swimming, etc.):
We are Mum and daughter, Jo and Rosa. We like walking, yoga, skating, languages, skiing, travelling, art, music, drama, spiritual practices, meeting new people, connecting with the rest of our more than human kin.

My time with Jo and Rosa was my first WWOOFing experience and it couldn’t have been better.
Me and my cat stayed for more than two months and time flew by. There were so many things to learn, and so many new tasks every week that it never got boring.
Jo and Rosa also included me in many non-farming activities which I also loved - it was a wonderful cultural experience!
My cat was also very warmly welcomed, she enjoyed walking around the farm, watching the birds.
Overall, we loved our time at the farm and will definitely come back! 💚

I spent two wonderful weeks with Jo.
I loved learning about vegan farming and arboriculture in this beautiful part of the Kent countryside.
I'm very happy to have met Jo who made it possible to do lots of different activities, to immerse myself in life around Faversham and with whom I loved discussing a variety of subjects.
I'd love to go woofering with her again!

It was an absolutely mind-blowing experience, for a person living in a town. My kids and I all got amazed by Jo's and her team's genuine love for the nature, animals and community. I truly believe that these are the people who should be rewarded most for their contribution to change the way how the current society works.
Their practical knowledge and skills for veganics are really worth learning.
I really loved the people, work and future that Jo and the team are trying to implement and wish you all the best for their project. I really hope to come back and spend time with these amazing people again.
Thank you all so much for hosting us!

The best wwoofing experience ever ! Jo and Rosa were so welcoming and patient. This was my first wwoofing experience. I came for two weeks in January and it was so lovely and amazing that I came back in February for 20 days.
At Tree of Life, I’ve planted lots of trees and fruit trees, helped Jo as much as she needed me.
I really enjoyed my stay in wilma. Everything was so nice, I met lovely people who share the same values as me.
I highly recommend this place, Jo and Rosa are just amazing.

We spent 3 days in Jo's wagon between Christmas and New Year, planting trees, mulching and digging hole. Jo and her daughter are very welcoming and it was interesting to share views about education and different ways of living. Wagon was warm even during winter and nice place to stay, We were 4, 2 adults and 2 teeangers. It has been a great experience.
