1. Describe your project, your place, and its inhabitants (including animals): Welcome to our new community nestled in the breathtaking landscapes of South Wales, on the edge of Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons), where we are embracing permaculture practices, fun and creativity to create a place that feels like home for everyone. We are passionate about working with nature and are using permaculture principles to guide the design of our new space. There are walled gardens within the grounds where we are planting a vast and diverse array of crops, including fruits, vegetables, herbs, berries and flowers that flourish year-round. Outside the walled garden we are in the early stages of planning and creating a food forest! There will be animals too - chickens have been the first to arrive, we have 6 so far and 3 guineafowl, we are hoping to breed our feathered friends so we have lots of fresh eggs and to help with enhancing soil fertility. As we cultivate our gardens and implement permaculture techniques, we will also be designing and building a natural swimming pool. It will be a central feature, fed by purified rainwater and filtered through plant life, it will be somewhere where residents can take a refreshing dip surrounded by nature's beauty... but we have to build it first! We're investing in renewable energy sources like solar panels and micro-hydro systems, which will enable us to power our community while minimising our reliance on external grids. Composting and greywater recycling will further contribute to resource conservation. So, whether you're a green-thumbed gardening enthusiast, a sustainability superstar, want to help with planning and building, or just someone who's excited about trying something new, we would love for you to come and visit us at our community in South Wales. We're all about growing together, learning from one another and creating a vibrant, unique and inclusive community. Please come join us, we would love for you to be a part of our incredible journey! 2. List the activities that WWOOFers will participate in and what you want to teach them: Activities include: Gardening, both food and grounds, building a tree nursery for the food forest, permaculture planning, feeding and caring for the chickens, planting trees, maintaining the grounds and woodlands. 3. How will you feed and house WWOOFers? Please describe your accommodations and plan for meals: There is a cottage with 3 bedrooms for WWOOFers. You are also welcome to camp or bring your campervan or caravan. Food for breakfast and lunch is provided on a make-it-yourself basis. Dinner is communal, with everyone taking turns to cook for each other. We are not all vegan or vegetarian, but we are all respectful of each other and always make sure there is enough food that everyone will enjoy. 4. What could a WWOOFer's day look like at your site (time slot for participation in activities, expectations...)? WWOOFers tend to get involved 5 days week. We chill at the weekends. We don't currently have a typical day. It's a new community that is being built so day to day activities are currently pretty varied. 5. Play the guide! Talk about your own hobbies (music, cooking, etc.) and those possible around (hiking, swimming, etc.): The people that live and stay here have various hobbies that include hiking, cycling, woodwork, carpentry, art, fitness, circus, yoga, acro yoga, knitting, sewing, martial arts, writing, music... and I'm sure a ton of others that I've not listed here. We have a dog called Nigel and two cats called Obi and Hobbs. WELCOMING TO ALL - whatever your race, gender, sexual orientation, neurospicy level, all are welcome at IDMWYD! Just let us know if you have any specific requirements and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.

We spend two weeks with Joanna, Chris and the community in the Wales. It was our first experience of woofing. We had a great time! We’ve learned a lot, everybody was really kind and lovely. It was great to learn more about the community, the values and of course of gardening tips! The cottage where we were was incredible, it felt like a cocoon in the middle of nature. Joanna and Chris are very lovely, please don’t hesitate live a woofing experience with them!

My time at [Host] was simply wonderful. I was immediately warmly welcomed and welcomed by Joanna and Chris. The modern accommodation in the 12th-century cottage was something very special. It's something you rarely experience as a wwoofer. I really enjoyed the shared meal in the evening as well as the occasional board games. I really didn't miss anything.

IDMWYD is a lovely place to volunteer. There were two other wwoofers during my stay and it was nice to work together. The cottages and farmhouse are amazing old buildings, really comfortable places to stay and it felt very welcoming. We’d eat dinner together and we had some nice social evenings playing games. The work is flexible and really reasonable. I worked a lot in the walled garden mulching beds and planting out strawberries amongst other gardening tasks. There were also baby chicks to look after :) Thanks so much Jo and Chris and the wider community at IDMWYD.

We spent a week at IDMWYD in South Wales, and it was an unforgettable experience! The farm is focused on permaculture and community living, with a beautiful landscape full of different gardens, veggie patches, fruit trees and a lovely stream. The stone farm house and cottages are incredible, some dating back to the 1200s! The hosts Chris and Jo, are incredibly kind, knowledgeable and welcoming. The other IDMWYD community members were incredibly friendly and welcoming too, and there were always interesting people in the house to meet and share meals with. As for the work, we helped in the initial stages of building a fence for a food forest, pruned fruit trees and helped clean out and reorganise the green house. It was rewarding work and the hosts were very appreciative and happy to give you autonomy when working which was really nice. Living on the farm was also great. We stayed in the main house. Our room had beautiful exposed beams, a comfortable double bed, en-suite and plenty of storage space. The meals were delicious, each community member shared the responsibility of cooking, and the hosts were very happy to tend to any dietary requirements and provide any food that we wanted. We had plenty of free time, and our wonderful hosts were happy to offer suggestions of places for us to visit nearby and ensure we had the opportunity to sight see. Overall, we highly recommend this farm for anyone interested in permaculture and community living and loved our week at IDMWYD!

We had the most wonderful time doing everything from path clearing and weeding to dehydrating apples and making chutney. Couldn't have asked for a better introduction to WWOOFing and Wales. Thank you to Jo, Chris and all the other beautiful humans who made us feel part of the community. Looking forward to seeing how you grow.

I spent three weeks at IDMWYD and it was a great experience. Chris and Jo, and all others staying on the land, are extremely welcoming and kind. The accommodation was ideal; separated from the main house for some privacy and additional space, as well as a clean kitchen and rooms, and chillout space. The work itself was varied and all the team here are willing to share their knowledge and willing to take on suggestions. They are flexible and accommodating based on your experience and skill level, making sure that you are able to contribute to the best of your ability. In the evenings, you have the choice of hanging out with everyone or being left to your own devices, it is completely up to you. Although I would recommend engaging in team dinner and we always did some games or activity in the evening together. My only regret is that I didn't stay longer! Also, be ready to brush up on your "Toads", they've got some seriously good players...
