Small mixed farm
Ceredigion
~Winter 2025/6: principle task is converting barn space for a milking parlour and microdairy processing room. WWOOFers with building/DIY experience particularly appreciated~
Hello! I am setting up a diverse farm and supporting nature wherever possible. Welcoming WWOOFers is an exciting part of this adventure - I had many wonderful experiences WWOOFing myself, and now look forward to hosting people in turn.
THE FARM
I am developing a mixed farming system, including a small dairy herd, arable cultivation of grains for flour milling, vegetable growing, establishing an orchard, and careful management of all aspects of the farm for biodiversity (e.g. encouraging hedgerow growth, increasing tree cover, pond creation, hay meadow restoration).
Tasks are varied and can include: infrastructure development for grain storage and the microdairy, orchard establishment and management, vegetable cultivation and associated tasks (for home consumption and some sales), establishing an ornamental and edible garden around the house, and hedgerow management (winter).
BEING A WWOOFER HERE
Unfortunately, for liability purposes, I can't host Wwoofers under 18 without a guardian.
When WWOOFers are here, the routine can be flexible, but as a basis, we tend to start outdoor tasks at around 9am (perhaps a little earlier depending on circumstances and the WWOOFers) and finish at around 4pm. Usually WWOOFers spend two days doing other activities of their choice, and I try and include one or two visits to local places of interest. It's essential that WWOOFers are happy to spend some time on tasks independently, although I try to spend as much time as possible with WWOOFers. I am very happy to discuss my knowledge of ecology and farming, and how I am trying to support biodiversity and produce food simultaneously.
I have a piano, lots of books, a few relics from bygone times like CDs and DVDs, and hope that you will enjoy the peace and quiet of the location. I speak French and am learning Welsh.
FOOD AND ACCOMMODATION
I provide vegetarian food and don't expect you to cook in addition to a normal volunteering day, although you are welcome to join in. You can also cook as part of your volunteering hours, which is particularly helpful when there's a big abundance of veg in summer. You will be housed in a room for one or two, which has nested single beds that can be put together, downstairs in the house. It has a wood burner and desk (see pic on profile). You will have access to a toilet on the same floor. We will probably eat together at lunches when we are working, and often in the evenings too, but there may be times when you have to prepare your own meal. I prefer to host people for 1-3 weeks initially, and might then consider a longer stay.
ABOUT THE AREA
This is a really beautiful area with lovely walks locally and further afield. Ceredigion has many wonderful places to discover - I am ~40 minutes from beautiful beaches, coast walks, ~20-30 minutes from hilly uplands, and lovely woods, fields and the river Aeron are on our doorstep.
There's a small shop, cafe and pub in the village, 1 km away. Nearest towns are Tregaron (10 minutes), Lampeter (20 minutes) and Aberystwyth (35 minutes), which has a large arts centre and the National Library of Wales.
Aberystwyth is our nearest train station, and the 585 bus runs between our local village, Llangeitho, and Aberystwyth on weekdays. It's also be possible to arrive by train at Carmarthen and then take the T1 bus to Lampeter.

I had an enjoyable 2 weeks at [Host] Farm & appreciate Susannah hosting me at short notice. She has a very interesting project of turning a formerly conventional farm into a more mixed farm of cattle, organic milk, wheat & flour & the planting of an orchard, ornamental & herb garden close to the house.
I had a good selection of jobs, primarily gardening ( as that is my trade), weeding, pruning a couple of overgrown holly trees, splitting logs/splitting wood for kindling, stripping wallpaper from a downstairs room, planting bulbs & some currant bushes. It was a great variety & hope I helped out in a small way.
Susannah is a great host, having previously been a wwoofer herself, has a wide circle of contacts & friends & will involve volunteers in social events she is doing. Whilst i was there we went to a nearby friends house to view the work of a artist in residence there & also attended a moving church service/singing, all in Welsh, in a nearby village.
I also appreciate the help & support, ie driving me into the nearby town surgery, I was given when I was temporarily & unexpectedly taken ill.
The location is remote, but the local village, easily walkable has a shop & pub & buses to larger towns. The nearby town of Tregaron has an excellent bakery for bread & pastries, a small museum/jewelry centre & a superb health food shop.
I highly recommend this host & farm.

November 2025
One of the best times of my life. It was my first time WWOOFing, and I had a perfect stay with Susannah. Susannah is such a lovely person. She's a perfect host. She has a wide range of interests, which led to some very interesting conversations. And of course, her patience when my English wasn't up to scratch. I also appreciated her knack for tailoring the tasks to my skills. For example, I was allowed to restore an old grain cleaner. I love old machines. It was also perfect that I had my own room and bathroom. I found the combination of work, getting to know her project, being part of the family, and exploring the surroundings simply perfect. I honestly can't think of anything that could have been better. Okay, maybe the weather (I was there in November).
I have the utmost respect for what Susannah is building and how purposefully she tackles each problem. Her project isn't some kind of "dropout dream," but a challenging yet realistic path to building a life connected to nature.

I visited Susannah at [Host] for one week and I had a really good time. Together with another Wwofer I helped renovating the barn and preserving lots of seasonal fruit. In my free time I had the opportunity for walks in the beautiful landscape around the farm.

I had a great week at [Host] with Susannah! I spent my working time there cleaning the combine harvester, taking out old electric wiring in the barn, picking blackberries, and doing some carpentry. In my off time, Susannah took me and the other WWOOFer to the local beach for a swim (the sea was surprisingly warm), and to the village agricultural fair that happened while we were there. Susannah was a great host, she really made me feel at home, and her cooking was delicious. The accommodation was comfortable, I had a bedroom to myself, and the house had everything you might need like a good shower and WiFi connection. I would recommend visiting here!

I spent two weeks at Suzannah's and really enjoyed my stay. Suzannah is a generous young woman who is gradually building a wonderful project. It was a privilege to be able to participate, even briefly. The farm is very lively, with lots of people coming to work there for a few days. It was great to meet them and fun to chat with them. The place is beautiful and Suzannah is very welcoming. Thank you so much for everything!
