Spending a month at Stevens Croft on Fair Isle was an absolute dream! I've had a range of hosts on here and on Workaway and Steven was by far the best, he made me feel completely at home on his croft and gave so much encouragement with the work we did together, along with all the extra hobbies I picked up (including breadmaking and woolspinning)! He had so much patience and was great company too, and often took me along to island events to get to know the other islanders and really feel part of the community. I'd highly recommend this to anyone who's interested in the area, who wants to learn some great new skills and who wants to have a good laugh. Food was better than expected ;)

Couldn’t have had a better stay with Steven. Fair Isle is truly a unique experience, but it’s in his kindness and willingness to share what he knows that Steve made this trip truly special. We fished, caught crab and lobster, took care of the chickens and the kittens, but Fair Isle doesn’t feel like work (even though Steven does consider it as such and lets you have entire days to roam free). As he says, it’s an adventure! I went there because I wanted to go as far as I could imagine myself going, and it’s only made me feel braver to go and try new things, meet new people, and learn more from them. Wwoofing isn’t always such an entirely positive experience, but with Steven, I truly have nothing to warn anyone against. Go!

Steve was a phenomenal host, he immediately made me feel like his home was my home. Fair Isle is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been, and Steve was eager to show it! Whether that was through daily hikes to look for sheep in distress, taking us out on his boat to fish and catch lobster, or having a dram with the neighbors. Couldn’t have asked for a better or more unique wwoofing experience.
