A small self-sufficiency farm in the rolling hills of south Wiltshire near Stonehenge & Salisbury.
Wiltshire
Our farm is geographically located in the quintessentially English countryside of south Wiltshire not far from the Dorset and Hampshire border. The farm lies southwest of the Stonehenge World Heritage Site and northwest of the City of Salisbury. The farm is adjacent to the Cranborne Chase National Landscape of Natural Beauty and a national cycle route. Sarah and I live on the farm with our daughters Alessandra (23) and Bianca (20), who also help on the farm when they are not at university, travelling or working . We have a very friendly cocker spaniel named Molly and a three-legged tomcat named Monty. Both demand the loving attention of guests! Our farm is wildlife friendly and we have recorded over 45 species of bird including barn owls and red kites, roe deer, badger, hawkmoths, hare, fox, LOTS of hedgehogs, muntjac and a variety of bat species. Bumble bees, solitary bees and butterflies are also abundant.
Sarah comes from a farming family and I worked many years as a conservation biologist for a multi-national conservation organization. We have farmed bio-dynamically here for 12 years seeking to reduce our carbon footprint in a tangible way, feed our family well, encourage native biodiversity, and show respect and gratitude for what the earth provides. The farm has a vegetable patch and polytunnel, a tree and soft fruit orchard, a large solar-array and solar battery, and we raise livestock every other year. We grow a wide variety of apples, plums, pears, quince, figs, red and black currants, raspberries, blackberries and boysenberries, strawberries, rhubarb and gooseberries. Native tree planting is an annual undertaking as we try and restore the fields to wood pasture and replenish the hedgerows that we manage for fuel to heat our home.
We want to teach WWOOFers how self-sufficiency can be strived for on a small parcel of land with a moderate amount of effort. We produce perhaps 50+% of our calorific needs. We produce so much fruit that we are forever encouraging all of our neighbours and extended family to come and pick what they like while also allowing the farm animals to enjoy a bit! We donate extra produce - approaching 500kg - to a local food bank.
Depending on the season, WWOOFers will participate in all aspects of farming including sowing, manuring, weeding, watering, composting, fencing, pruning, fuel wood production, picking and processing vegetables and fruit, and animal husbandry (goats, pigs, sheep, ducks and chickens). We can teach cookery skills, low-sugar preserve and juice production, butchery, charcuterie, and fruit tree pruning depending on the time of year.
WWOOFers will sleep in the shepherd's hut with a commanding view of the valley. Bathroom facilities are in the barn 70 meters away and shower facilities are available in the main house. WWOOFers share all meals with us in the main house but are free to cook separately if they choose. As a trained chef, I believe enjoying tasty meals with our vegetables, fruit and meats is as important as the farming. WWOOFers help with meal production and dish washing and/or cook a meal for us. We love tasting new dishes.
After the work is finished, we enjoy relaxing with a drink around a campfire next to our shepherd's hut on the hill looking west across the Wylye River valley as the sun sets...or at our local village pub! Our hobbies include farming, cooking, yoga, music festivals, kayaking, hiking, wild food foraging, bird watching and international travel.

I had an excellent stay with Henri and Sarah: on the program to weed, plant, gather, feed the animals, make apple juice... Moreover, this work makes sense thanks to the explanations and sharing of values by Henry and Sarah. Every evening we enjoy a meal made with farm products that once again gives meaning to our work. It’s a beautiful human adventure, I was warmly welcomed and integrated. Henry and Sarah generously helped me discover the region, for my great pleasure. So it’s an experience I highly recommend!

I had a wonderful experience WWOOFing for 10 days at [Host] Farm! I got to help with animal care, harvesting from the orchard and garden, preparing food for freezing, weeding, juicing, fertilizing, and fence maintenance. Henry and Sarah were incredibly generous and hospitable, and I learned a great deal from them. It was an absolute joy to get to know this lovely farm and family, as well as the surrounding area!

I have just returned from a lovely and inspiring week with Henry & Sarah on their small holding- right from the off they were welcoming and made me feel included.
I learnt so much - maybe I did question them a lot too! But they explained everything going along- counting sheep really is important.
Being fabulous cooks staying with them really was a lesson in fork to plate - my extra freezer is on order!
We did lots of different aspects to small holding- feeding animals, hoeing and seedling, picking and watering- I felt useful and it was great working alongside Henry and Sarah. And now I have a fab new doggy friend in Molly!!
The days were paced nicely with breaks- and none of us could do much when it was too hot, though if it’d been later in the season it’d have been great to prep more produce inside.
I would encourage anyone who wants to learn and is interested in farm to plate to spend time and good energy at Mount Pleasant. Fab folks.

My experience at the farm was absolutely amazing! Henry and Sarah were so welcoming and kind, and they taught me far more about farming (and everything around it) than I expected. The work, while definitely exhausting at times, felt incredibly rewarding; the animals were adorable; the food was genuinely amazing; and there was plenty of free time to explore the beautiful landscape and Salisbury.
I can wholeheartedly recommend this experience to anyone curious about organic farming and connecting with nature. After my week on Henry’s and Sarah’s lovely farm, I’ve come to appreciate nature, animals, and food so much more. Even if it weren’t for all the other great things, I’d be grateful for the experience for that alone.
Thank you, Henry and Sarah!

I had a wonderful stay here. It was a great experience and Henry and Sarah are so warm and welcoming, it was my first Wwoofing-experience and I really felt that I was a part of the family.
They taught me so much about the farming, the local area and everything that includes a “every day life” as an English local. And they also showed me around a lot which I’m so great full for! I also had some free time to explore the area by myself!
I helped them with gardening and in the orchard, preparing before the winter, the tasks were varied so every day looked different.
I really recommend this place☺️

I had a wonderful week with Henry and Sarah at Mount Pleasant Farm. I was able to assist with a variety of things both in the vegetable garden and in the fruit orchard. I really appreciated the variation of tasks which allowed me to do a mixture of harvesting, weeding, and pruning. Sarah and Henry went beyond expectation as far as offering wonderful accommodation in their home and sharing meals, as well as sharing a lot about the historical and cultural landmarks in the area. I would highly recommend a visit!
