Hello WWOOFers! My name is Choc and I live with my husband Billy, daughter Myla (8), son Eddie (5) and our young, lively German Shepherd Dog Ayla on our 78 acre farm near Aberlour, Moray. We have achieved a lot since moving here early 2023 and we have lots of plans, hopes and dreams for the farm in the future.
We have a variety of different livestock (Belted Galloway and Highland Cattle, a mixture of different sheep and pigs) which we farm predominantly for meat using low input, regenerative farming practices. We also have 2 pet ponies (not ridden) and bees. We also have the beginnings of a food forest, a poly tunnel and small vegetable garden.
Our days always begin with a walk around the farm to check all of the animals and fences. Seasonally there can be extra animal jobs (vaccinating, shearing, scanning sheep, putting collars on cattle, cleaning out etc) but the animals typically make up a smaller part of the farm work as they are all typically kept outside and with low input. The other jobs can vary from fencing, weeding, mulching, mowing, pruning, sowing, planting, picking up stones, poo picking the ponies etc. etc.
Wwoofers will stay in a caravan and use the kitchen and bathroom in the house. We eat some meals together and some separately. Almost all of the meat we eat has come from our farm and we produce as much of our own veg as possible. I love cooking and baking so there's usually cake on the go too and we wouldn't expect our visitors to go hungry!
Please note that with 2 young children, one of whom is neurodivergent, our house is generally busy, loud and chaotic. Please consider carefully whether this would suit you!
We cannot accept smokers for personal health reasons.
Stays are for a around 1-2 weeks.
Aberlour is a lovely village with a small shop, deli, swimming pool, climbing wall, an old railway line for flat walking, running or cycling and wild swimming spots. We're also close to Ben Rinnes for more adventurous hiking. We can provide a bike for getting to the village (about 1 mile but a fair hill back!) or can offer lifts when we're heading in. We may also be able to offer lifts to Elgin or Inverness when it fits with our plans.
As a family, outwith the farm, we enjoy swimming, climbing, mountain biking and other outdoor activities. I also enjoy cooking, baking and knitting.
