Small hill property in temperate rainforest
Stirlingshire
Hello Woofers - my name is Jill and I, along with my Labrador dog, live in the Trossachs and Loch Lomond National Park. Our location is remote - south west facing overlooking Loch Lomond with spectacular views to the Arrochar Alps and 15 miles to the nearest bus stop and town of Aberfoyle. It is feasible to reach us via a combination of train and boat if you want to rely on public transport, but a car would give you more independence to explore.
The property includes a former Hunting Lodge that has been undergoing a major renovation over the last four years . The land is hill ground, partially wooded which we plan to regenerate with native oak woodland. We have a ten year management agreement in place with the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park for the removal of rhododendrons and invasive species.
Our objective is to migrate the immediate grounds from lapsed ornamental garden to replicate the species of the adjacent native woodland. The work would be largely outdoors and very hands-on! There will be some survey work to plot the location of and identify species for future management but also manual, ranging from weeding, creating dead hedging , collecting and transplanting seedlings and some tree planting. There will be some indoor chores as well to ensure the smooth running of the Lodge, -helping with general housekeeping will be expected. Cooking can also be an option if you'd like to.
During the summer months preference will be given to couples or friends traveling together as only one twin room will be available for woofers. Outwith those months more accommodation may be available and bigger groups potentially accommodated although this is likely only to be for short periods of time. The property both inside and out, is on a number of different levels. The site is steep and the majority of the tasks are very physical so woofers need to be physically fit. If you have relevant skills, or experience with forestry or horticultural work it would be an advantage, but is not essential. Experience however has shown that the best wwoofers for the project have a bit more life experience and can work without supervision . At this stage in the project we are not suited to school leavers/ gap year students.
All the rooms in the Lodge have their own ensuite facilities and depending on the time of your visit, the option of a private sitting room. Breakfast would probably be easiest to forage from the fridge but we would usually expect to eat lunch and dinner together.
Hobbies are largely a luxury as the property has been an all encompassing project since purchasing it four years ago. I'm incredibly fortunate however to have travelled extensively, always with an active focus be that cycling, trekking or practising yoga. I have a huge passion for the African continent having lived and worked there as a safari guide for some years. Family commitments brought me back to the UK .
Inversnaid is the perfect place to host old friends and new, of like-minded spirits. There's plenty scope for outdoor activities cycling, walking, running, climbing, swimming, but if it's a lively and active night life you're looking for, this isn't the place for you! This is a place to step back, reset and enjoy the wonders of the Scottish countryside whilst contributing to the restoration of the internationally important woodlands that surround us. So please, if you don't share this passion for wilderness and the environment then don't apply. This won't suit you and doing so would deprive those of a place who really would be inspired by and appreciate it.

Stayed one month
The perfect wwoofing experience. Varied physical work with picturesque views and sometimes deer in background. All tasks felt impactful and at the end of every day relaxing by the fire in nice company I would get this satisfying feeling "we did something today, today was a good day"
Jill is very involved in the project and a perfect host.
Accomodation- I would say luxurious
Food- for a simple meat and potatoes guy like me this was a quiet an experience almost every day trying something new. Good experience. Mostly vegetarian since other wwoofers ware veggies.
Thank You for hosting me. Would love to see the progress of the project in future.
Best of luck to Jill and all the wwoofers I've met there.

This woofing is such a wonderful place. I had 3 amazing weeks with Jill. The accommodations are really confortable : own bedroom/bathroom, fireplace, kitchen, loch view and many more.
The work itself changes regarding on the season and project of the moment. I stacked branches and logs, planted bulbes, built dead hedges.
The work hours are fair and manageable. Jill is accommodating. I was able to go on a overnight camping trip up Ben Lomond by finishing earlier on a Friday.
Overall, I met great people during those 3 weeks, had the most interesting conversation and ate wonderful vegetarian food. I hope I get to hear from Jill and Tanga.

I couldn’t have imagined a better experience for my first woofing! The project Jill has undertaken here is truly impressive, and I’m so grateful to have been part of it for a month. Thank you for all the delicious recipes (I’ll definitely make them again at home!!), the wonderful people I met, and the cozy evenings playing Dobble and Wizard by the fire! I’m leaving Inversnaid with my head full of sweet memories :)
During this month, I learned so much — we stacked logs, cut rhododendrons, sorted conifer branches, planted bulbs, and built dead hedges. We were super lucky with the weather and got to work outside every days ! The work was definitely physical, but always in a positive way: I actually loved feeling my muscles work!
The place itself is absolutely incredible — so many hikes to do on the weekends, and the nature here is breathtaking. It felt like everything was beautiful, no matter where I looked! I feel so lucky to have lived in such an amazing environment.
I really hope I’ll have the chance to come back one day, to help again and see all the changes in the landscape by then. See you :)

I'm really grateful to Jill for giving Richard and me the opportunity to volunteer at her place. It was, in so many ways, an incredible experience. She has a beautiful property that makes you feel like you're living in a Jane Austen novel. It's amazing to see how she transformed the building and the garden into something as beautiful as it is now.
We helped her insulate the bathroom, put up fences near the cottage, move the cottage gate, chop and stack firewood, plant bulbs, create dead hedges, replace broken window glass, and much more. You won’t get bored with the work, as there are always interesting tasks to do.
Jill is truly an amazing host. She knows how to take care of volunteers and makes sure you feel at home. I won’t forget the tasty meals and the big roasted garlic head especially for me! The location also offers plenty of hiking opportunities, which is a big plus for anyone who enjoys hiking or outdoor activities in general.
Thank you Jill! Hope to see you and sweet Tanga next year :)

Wwoofing at Jill's has a been an incredible experience - the setting is enough to inspire you to be consumed by the land and to take care of it. But Jill's enthusiasm, knowledge, ideas & long term planning is just as inspiring. I've become a better steward of the land; knowing the importance of mitigating invasive species, keeping certain indigenous environments sustained through proper methods.
I enjoyed the wwoof work: chopping up wood for firewood; organising the stacked wood around the property to manage the seasoned/green material; helping to get systems in place for easy management; gardening; clearing brash for sapling opportunities; inside jobs - clearing, painting sorting and organising. The work was flexible & rewarding.
Meal times and evenings were memorable due to great conversation and wonderful home cooked food.
My room & ensuite was a fantastic, very comfortable and cosy private base for me, although I felt free time was better spent chatting, reading and discussing in the shared sofa room in front of the fire with Jill, Tanga and other wwoofers. In other free times, the loch is a short walk away for swimming and walking, the hills above are amazing for walking and soaking up the Scottish views.
An incredible wwoof placement to get stuck in to work on the land, feel appreciated, feel welcomed and an incredible place to connect with nature and to be re-wilded. Thankyou, for your knowledge, guidance, warm, homely welcome & exciting opportunity to return

Jill has been nothing but lovely during my stay at [Host]. Tasks were variable depending on the weather and the midges. It involved cutting and sorting wood to build fences, chopping wood with a saw, painting furnitures, cleaning and prep of the cottage so that it can be painted. Jill was very fair with working hours, and takes the time we need to explain how she tries to take her land back to what it originaly was (mainly oak, birch, scottish pine...) and what she wishes to achieve with her house. The room I stayed in was really comfortable, with my own bathroom, and Jill's food was simply amazing ! I really felt at home and enjoyed our long talks about politics and life in general. Thanks Jill for everything !
