Our farm is mostly off grid and we aim to live in a slow, seasonal way that respects natures resources. We work the land using low impact and heritage land skills with an effort to minimise fossil fuel use, and use hand tools where possible. In the summer we make hay for our livestock using scythes, and we have woodland with coppice being brought back into rotation for charcoal, firewood and woodland produce. We've two Dairy cows whom we hand milk, and we raise rare breed pigs. We grow the majority of our own fresh produce in our low till kitchen garden, and field scale plots. We make our own cheese, butter & yogurt and are self sufficient in meat. We sell any surplus we produce locally via our honesty box farm shop, and we occasionally teach scything & food growing. We would love to host you if you're interested in learning about... Hand milking cows, running a micro dairy & making cheese Growing vegetables using low inputs Raising pigs as part of a whole farm system Managing land using traditional land skills & minimising fossil fuels Scything & using hand tools. Building using low impact methods & materials Off Grid, Seasonal Living Coppicing & woodland work Cooking & preserving seasonal harvests on a wood fire Making Apple Juice & managing small orchards. To offer the best experience for everyone, we host wwoofers for a 2 week minimum stay. If you're interested in staying with us longer term - get in touch to find out what's available. We sometimes offer full season stays for those wanting to fully immerse in this way of life. Days on the farm begin with milking the cows & feeding the pigs, Followed by no dig gardening, farm tasks, coppicing, wood processing, preserving and foraging, compost making, scything.. the list is endless! You will mostly shadow one of us with our daily tasks around the farm, Our hours are flexible and weather dependant but mostly we will do around 5/6hours - 5 days a week. In the Summer, when we are making hay expect earlier starts and later finishes but with time off in-between, and usually swimming! We mostly all eat together, simple seasonal meals using farm produce. If you like to cook, that's great - if you don't no worries washing up is always an option. We can't cater for a vegan diet for ethical and environmental reasons. We can cater for veggie & gluten free but you will need to let us know before your stay. We have a simple caravan & yurt for wwoofer accommodation. We also have space for van park ups & camping. Living area is approx 3min walk from basic compost loo. We don't have WIFI but the phone signal is ok, we are able to charge phones but not much else. We have drinking water but no hot shower. We ONLY have a cold shower or a kettle for warm water wash. And no washing machine, we use the laundrette in town. FREE TIME: The Teign Valley is located at the edge of Dartmoor National park - Lots of hikes, woods, rivers and big rocks all in walking distance, even more if you've got your own transport. We are a fairly sociable bunch, there's often friends and visitors passing through, we enjoy a trip to the local pubs every now and again. The bus goes from just outside the farm into Exeter most days where there is a good free museum, shopping, and 'city life' Simon speaks enough French to communicate well, but we expect a decent level of spoken English to have good understanding between us all. ABOUT US: Simon has a long history of off grid community living. For the past 13 years he managed a small herd of Jersey cows providing milk and dairy produce for a thriving community enterprise at Monkton Wyld Court. Jon joined him at the MWC farm in 2021, and together they now lead the dairy enterprise at our Farm. Jon's partner, Jas is a gardener, vegetable grower & yoga teacher. She love to cook up seasonal feasts from our home grown produce and the occasional cheese.

Jasmine and Simon were great company at the farm, and kindly included us in their circle of friends at the local pub, along with Jon. A very nice experience!

We (Esther and Jack) stayed with Jasmine, John, and Simon for one beautiful, scorching hot week in July 2025. We had a variety of fun tasks to do during our stay including harvesting and weeding the veg patch; harvesting black currants from the most abundant currant bushes we've ever seen (at a neighbour Tim's growing site); making black currant jam, sour kraut, and paneer cheese (with fresh milk from the cows!); pulling ragwort from the fields as it can be poisonous for the cattle; helped with light carpentry on the eaves of the barn and attaching roof battens; painting a caravan; learning how to scythe and scything alfalfa to harvest for the cattle! Looking back we fitted so much into just one week! Jas, John, and Simon are all lovely, warm and welcoming and we really felt at home for the short period we were with them. The food provided was so delicious and varied! Jas is one great cook! We would have loved to stay for longer, and would also love to go back in the future!

We had a great two weeks at [Host] Farm! Really interesting seeing the project at quite an early stage. Work varied a lot: we worked on the garden, in the kitchen, harvested potatoes, stacked hay, and worked on the timber frame barn. Learnt how to milk a cow, make yogurt and cheese and how not to make blackberry jam! Jas, Jon and Simon were all really welcoming and involved us in all parts of their life, including trips to the local farm show, the pub and another local market garden. Jas made lots of delicious food, almost entirely with produce from the farm and garden. Pretty basic facilities as it’s completely off-grid but the yurt was cosy and cold shower did the job! Definitely planning on returning again soon
