Myself Stefan and my parter Kari are a nature-loving sustainable-living enthusiasts. Our children are grown up and have left home and we moved to our small croft in the north-west Highlands of Scotland in 2023. Here we run a small self-catering holiday business and a ‘wild croft’. We grow organic fruit and vegetables and our managing our land to be more wildlife-friendly. Our plans include removing old fences and planting more trees. An average day would involve helping with vegetable-growing in our new all-weather ‘timber tunnel’ (a kind of growing tunnel designed specifically for the Highlands & Islands of Scotland). We also have a small orchard of about 20 apple trees where we may also have a few sheep to keep the grass short. Work in the orchard may involve pruning the trees or picking and storing apples (depending on the time of year). We may also need some help with removing old sheep-fencing on the croft and planting native trees. Woofers would have their own bedroom in our house, or stay in one of our self-catering shepherds huts (if one is free). Meals would be shared with us in the house: breakfast, lunch and evening meals. Kari is a very good cook and the food would be mainly vegetarian/gluten-free. We are both nature-lovers and enjoy the local wildlife on our croft and the surrounding mountains and coast. Stefan also plays guitar and Kari practices yoga every day (she is an experienced teacher).. Nearby are opportunities for wild-swimming in the sea and walking in the hills. We visit the local town of Ullapool once or twice a week for shopping and a visit to the gym/swimming pool gym and guests can join us there.

I had an absolutely lovely two weeks with Kari and Stefan. I was lucky enough to stay while they had some of their lovely family visiting as well, and I quickly felt like part of the family. There's plenty of varied work to keep busy with around the croft; some very physical, but they're very happy to figure out what you're happy working on, for you to recuperate when you need, and find opportunities to enjoy the wild, beautiful, and history-filled landscape around Nedd. I'm so happy I went, and would love go back.

I had such a wonderful time with Kari and Stefan! They are both incredibly kind and an endless source of knowledge. I learned so much about growing vegetables, the area’s history, and its wildlife. There’s always plenty to do on the croft, but Stefan and Kari are very respectful of your energy and how much you can take on. I helped with the vegetable tunnel, moved rocks and turf to build a wall, and did some small renovation work (sanding and painting) in Kari’s yoga studio. You can never get bored on the croft — working alongside them was not only fun but also filled with deep, engaging conversations. It was the perfect mix of learning new skills, helping with meaningful projects, and discovering a place, its people, and its culture. You truly feel like part of the family while staying there, and Kari is indeed an excellent cook! I loved every minute of my stay and am deeply grateful for the experience.

I spent two weeks with Kari and Stefan at their croft in Nedd, and couldn't have wished for a better experience for my first woofing trip (in fact, I wonder if I'll have the chance to go through such an incredible experience again in the future!) They were both brilliant hosts in every way and particularly generous: they taught me a lot about birds, the geology of the magnificent place in which they live, gardening... Kari is an experienced cook, and I loved cooking with her and, above all, enjoying the most incredible meals - her roast dinner is to die for. My daily activities were very varied (gardening, weeding, carrying wood, planting trees, watering the greenhouse, cooking, making elderflower cordial, picking vegetables for us and for the tourists staying in the shepherd's huts...) and I wasn't bored for a single second. Kari and Stefan really made me feel like part of their family, and also took me with them on lots of their adventures: wild swimming with Kari (among the seals, in the lochs and from the white sand beaches), bird counting with Stefan, visit to the North West Highlands geopark, fish and chips in Ullapool... The place where they live is very calm (good sleep guaranteed!) and absolutely beautiful. I recommend it 100% and hope to go back very soon!

I had a great time in Nedd and can recommend Stefan and Kari as hosts. Their croft is located in a beautiful area with stunning views and nice local walks and a bike available to explore further. Daily activities were varied, including building a pond, assisting in gardening, fence removal and helping to sheer sheep. I stayed in a very comfortable bedroom and we shared delicious meals (Kari makes delicious meals and gluten free baking and desserts). I felt like part of the family with Kari and Stefan, often going out to explore the area and they included me in local events and introduced me to neighbours and friends. If you are looking to see the Highlands, I strongly recommend coming here!
