Setting up smallholding in the Welsh Border Hills.
Herefordshire
We are a family of 3, covering 3 generations (70ish, 45ish, 10ish). We have a cottage set in 7 acres of hillside in the welsh borders that we are setting up as a place where we can bring people together to worldschool, live consciously, run workshops, grow food, make beautiful places etc. Currently we have someone else's sheep on the land as I am busy creating spaces to be. We have 2 very friendly dogs.
We are surrounded by rural properties with some lovely neighbours, a national trust woods, a hilltop reserve with amazing views and lots of chances for walking. We are close to some lovely wild river swimming and not too far (~10 miles) from towns (Hereford, Malvern, Ross-on-Wye).
We are currently still setting things up. We have sheds to build, swimming holes to dig, railway carriages to convert, tree houses to build etc. We have a large organic garden that has fallen into disuse and may not restart for a while until we have the creation phase done. We have grazing land that is currently used for sheep, and may have some horses on over the winter. The sheep are not ours, the horses would be on loan for now.
We will either cook and eat together, or if we get the outdoor kitchen ready you can use that with food we will provide, should you prefer.
We have a railway carriage with a sofa bed, a bell tent with a couple of beds, and potentially a caravan (if we get it renovated) and a field shelter that we hope to make into sleeping space.
I am homeschooling a 9-year-old, so if you have a child around that age, it would be fun. We love to ride, travel, walk the dogs, wild swim, make stuff, have bonfires, play board games, talk, harvest and forage... we have some guitars/ukuleles/drums, though not any great musical ability, so if you want to bring some music we will sing along...

I stayed with Meera, Viv & Lorien and their lovely dogs Kizzy & Pip for eight days & had a very good time! I stayed in their comfortable tent and engaged in two of their current projects, which were building a shed and clearing out an area from roots for the future orchard. I could join in for a trip to the horse stables in Wales (and even got to go on a little hack) & to see Hay-on-Wye (which is a super nice and beautiful little town!).
You should definitely stay with these three, if you’re looking for time away from the city-buzz, as their house in the middle of the beautiful english countryside! Just dive right into this open-minded and kind family! ;)
