Hello WWOOFerS , My name is Scott and I live with my wife Margaret in a four bedroom croft house on our 35 acre croft on the West coast of the isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland with access to sandy beaches on the other side of main road . Our four grown up children are not resident but visit several times a year to manage their self catering cottages of one each which we built over the last 30 years residency since Margaret inherited croft from her father . We like to be self sufficient and have been in the past but not so much now and would like to reinstate this by hosting WWOOfers in 2026 . WWOOfers will be housed in either a 2 berth caravan adjoining our croft house on hill ,5 person tent close by or in newly built 4 berth glamping pod located on croft land close to the sea .We shall supply all food bought locally or from adjoining crofts . We used to breed Eriskay ponies and Highland Cattle but still have 35 blackface sheep .We are now starting to grow crops and vegetables as we did in the past . We have a designated area for tree planting in our 2 hectare apportionment 5 minutes walk up hill from croft house with over 700 trees planted already .We wish to become more sustainable in energy production and food production using organic methods and seaweed fertiliser Half of our sheep are Ewe hogs (female lambs a year old )and the other half are Gimmers ( females 2 years old ) as we no longer breed for lambing and turn round stock each year .However we host neighbours sheep at lambing times so there are plenty of lambs on our fields in May. We intend having a poly crub constructed on our croft in 2026 for plant growing and this will mean re applying for previous consents .We wish to increase our tree numbers and pursuing new off grid energy schemes as well as planting vegetables within a fenced stock free area . Wwoofers would be involved in this as well as low maintenance of fences ,sheds ,path widening and of course planting vegetables and nurturing wild flower areas . We would supply food including meat from our croft as well as other crofts and local shops to WWOOfers with facilities within their accommodation for preparing this .There is a 2 berth caravan adjoining our croft house ,also a 4 man tent nearbye with toilet and shower cabin and a newly built 4 person glamping pod on the croft close to the shore with its own toilet and shower and cooking facilities I have become a licenced Harris Tweed weaver on a Hattersley mark 1 single width tweed housed in our garage next to Croft house and WWOOfers can help in making purns of wool for inserting into shuttles on the foot pedal powered loom. I also play highland bagpipes and small pipes too . There are lovely hills to climb all round us and a loch to fish in ten minutes away or from a beautiful beach sea accessed by foot from all accommodation . There is a very active wild swimming group close by that meet for a swim together and a sauna after
