Hello Woofers. We are a couple who have retired from professional jobs and now keep an organic smallholding on which we grow all our own fruit and vegetables, produce our own wood for fuel, keep chickens and sell small amounts locally.
Our daily routines depend very much on the time of year. From January/February I will be sowing, planting, preparing beds and tending crops while my partner will be mowing, hedging, mulching beds and so on.
We cook and eat together each evening but do our own thing for breakfast and lunch. Our food is meat-free and mostly uses what we've produced on the farm.
The surroundings here are agricultural. It's great cycling country and we have bikes available. We are five miles from the nearest town for shopping and ten miles from a larger town for swimming pool and other facilities. We are able to provide some lifts.
We would welcome any interest in cooking vegetarian meals from time to time and any DIY skills are also useful but certainly not obligatory. You will learn how to become self-sufficient in fruit and vegetable growing and can also participate in wood processing for fuel. For anyone with some previous knowledge of vegetable growing it will be possible to learn further from the wide range of varieties grown here, for example 60+ varieties of beans each year, 30+ tomato varieties and so on. We would hope to match activities to the interests and aims of anyone who wishes to spend time here.
