Our woodland croft is situated on the Isle of Mull. We are off grid and are in the early stages of developing our croft. We have three focuses: creating and maintaining the woodland, willow basketry and a market garden. The croft is a former forestry site with lots of stumps from trees felled. We have built a small greenhouse/propagating shed and two large polytunnels. Our Tamworth pigs are helping churn up the land for the future veg beds. We are a couple and are living in a static caravan on the croft with our dog Lily. We are currently running our first season of the market garden. You will be able to learn about all the different stages of growing vegetables at a larger scale, the impact of the seasons and its cycle, what works best in the Scottish climate, ... We are happy to chat about the aspects of living off grid like having a private water supply, having an off grid electricity system,... We are creating our own native woodland so we can share about this with you as well. There will be the day to day running of the market garden: sowing, potting up, planting, weeding, watering, harvesting,... We are also still setting up some of our infrastructure like the irrigation system, creating paths, ... Much of what we do requires a good level of fitness. We are looking for people to get stuck in and learn with us as we go! You would have your own separate living space, staying in a touring caravan. There is hot and cold water in the caravan, for the shower and kitchenette. There is no flushed toilet in the caravan but there is a compost toilet outside. Unfortunately it is not possible to bring a dog. We will share tea-breaks and lunches, and twice a week we would have dinner together. We will provide food for all other meals to cook yourself. We enjoy meeting new people and sharing experiences and skills! If you are interested in basketmaking it is possible to join a workshop at a reduced price. We are two miles away from Dervaig, which has a shop and a pub. Beautiful Calgary beach is two miles away the other way. A 45 minute walk on paths and a forestry track leads you to Langamull beach. A local bus goes past the croft on weekdays, which takes you to Tobermory, the main town on the island. How to get here by public transport: - Travel to Edinburgh or Glasgow - Train or bus to Oban - Ferry from Oban to Craignure (www.calmac.co.uk) - Bus from Craignure to Tobermory. This bus doesn't run on Sundays! (www.westcoastmotors.co.uk/services/isle-of-mull) - Bus from Tobermory to Calgary. We are just past Dervaig. This bus doesn't run in the weekend! If this bus doesn't connect to your first bus we can pick you up from Aros, which is on the route to Tobermory. Please have a look at our website and social media where you will find more photos of what's been happening on the croft. Do get in touch, we look forward to hearing from you! Arran and Leen
